Super User deep Posted April 26, 2011 Super User Posted April 26, 2011 Skip the first 11 posts. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Looking for reviews on this Cumara in particular (what techniques you use it for, balance, weight, etc), and on Cumara spinning rods in general. I found a couple of reviews on TW that said this rod is too tip-heavy. Any comments on that? Quote
CWilliams Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 I have used my CUS72MH for just about everything .....senko, jigs, shakeyhead, texas rigs, frogs/topwater and even jerkbaits. As far as balacne goes, I can give you a better answer next time I fish with it. Its currently in a friends boat. Mine is paired with a Sustain 2500 and I dont remember balance being a problem, but I will check for you. Do you know what reel you will be using? Quote
Super User deep Posted April 26, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 26, 2011 Do you know what reel you will be using? A sub $100 reel, probably Sedona or Sahara, in 2500 size. Quote
CWilliams Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 The Sedona is the same weight as my Sustain. That will make it easy to answer your balance question. Ill post back when I get a chance to check on that for you. Maybe somebody else will have an answer for you too. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 In my mind, finesse fishing is light line and small baits. My setup is ML/XF for 1/8 - 3/8oz baits. M/F for general spinning 1/2oz or <. Balance is a preference. I'd take the reel along while rod shopping and see how it feels to you. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 26, 2011 Super User Posted April 26, 2011 That's the one rod in the Cumara series that I wish I hadn't spent my money on. The rod is overly heavy, is slow to react, and doesn't fish it's action or weight rating. Not my choice in a spinning rod at all. The 7-2 Med Xfast dropshot rod is a far better rod for all applications, in terms of finesse, than the MH. If you're dead set on a MH I would look at the Avid or Loomis rather than the Cumara. Quote
Super User deep Posted April 26, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 26, 2011 DVT, the rod will come from TW or some other online store. So much as I'd like to, I won't be able to do store-fishing. By finesse, I mean slow-moving, bottom-bouncing soft baits. Hooligan, that's interesting. Thanks for the info. I'm not dead-set on an MH, but the heaviest lure I'm looking to throw is 1/2 oz, and most will be around 3/8 oz. Quote
midnighthrasher Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 That is a great deep water tube dragging rod. I traded mine for a cumara cusd68m. It was a great rod but i dont drag tubes in 30ft+ water that much. I love cumaras and currently have 5 and i am waiting for a sixth. A better rod is the cud68m. 6 inches shorter, feel better in your hands, it gas that great cumara feel. The 7'2 just felt too big for a cumara. I say that regarding that 7'2 only because the 7'2 casting models are amazing rods. That one just feels like a beast. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 26, 2011 Super User Posted April 26, 2011 I'd look at the 7-2 Xfast in that case. It's far and away my favorite spinning rod. I love the way it handles everything from small mojo rigs to 1/2 oz dropshot weights. It's very sensitive and the tip gives you the ability to work a bait very well. Quote

Do you mean this rod: Cumara Spinning Rod 7'2" Med Xfast, 6-12 lb, 1/8-3/8 oz? Quote

Super User deep Posted April 28, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 28, 2011 I researched a lot, and finally decided to stay with Gary Dobyns. He did design the Powells right? I'm getting myself a Dobyns Champion 703SF, or a 763SF. I haven't decided on the length, yet. But there's plenty of time to think about that. I need to wait for the Memorial Day sales.. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 28, 2011 Super User Posted April 28, 2011 Absolutely nothing wrong with that choice. I hear more and more good things about the 763. Quote
