A Fishing Rod "story"

I was reading a thread in the Rod section of the forum on high end rods and if they're worth the $$$. This is a true story believe it or NOT.

Three of us were out fishing on our local muddy pond the other day. My son was fishing with a G. Loomis IMX he was dragging the bottom and said, Dad there is a coin on the bottom of the pond, I could feel it. I said that was amazing so I threw my GLX out and when I brought it back in I could feel that there was indeed a coin laying on the bottom I could tell, it was a dime. My father then threw his NRX out, brought it back slowly and said your both right There is a coin down there, it is a dime and the date on it is 1992. My Dad was impressed with his NRX. True fish story, really

How could you tell the date if it wasn't heads up ?

I either had to say this or click on the the little plus or minus. I refuse to use those. They suck.

That's funny because ten years ago an ugly stick was my "good" rod. This past year I had two custom rods made on Batson RX7 blanks and I also have started using braid. It is amazing to me when a crank goes across some rocks. It feels like the rod tip is going over those rocks. I love it. I didn't realize how much different it is until I was using my cheap "beater rod" I keep in my car. Mono and a cheap rod made me feel like I didn't even have a lure on there. Now, I don't know if I could tell if there is a coin on the bottom, but I am a lot better at feeling what's down there when I am using my good rods.

I can attest to the truthfulness of that story. That's why I'm ordering my 3rd NRX. The NRX model is an absolute must have for anyone who fishes soft plastics.

But in all seriousness, when it comes to sensitivity;

rod = 10%

line = 90%

Personally, I think the sensitivity of a setup is overrated. I just happen to like super sensitive line for lots of other reasons too.

I know that a lot of the high priced rods are very good rods, but there is a point where I can't justify the price, personally. If I had a signifigant amount of cash on hand I'd buy them all. Untill thats the case I'll settle w/ mid priced stuff.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense.

My brother had a custom built steelhead rod that he used to swear that he could tell the color of the rocks on the bottom were. The closest I ever came to anything like this was when I had a blind date with this girl who said she had psychic abilites. But who knows as she didn't show up. So what did that mean?

If you only knew what you're missing. Like I said, if you fish soft plastics such as C-rig, t-rig and weightless worm, then NRX is a must.

Cast into 20mph wind, let your line get a big bow in it and let me know if you can feel the slightest little tick. With the NRX, not only can you feel the tick but you can count the scales.
