atrocity123 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 So I took the boat out yesterday to make sure the Yamaha was running right ,changed out all the fuel/ micron filters, and was totally confused to see both west and north canals blocked off?? Now I haven't been to Lox in months, last time I was there was when they just had the barge there to work on the seepage issue. I saw boats in both canals so I'm assuming they entered through the canals, is that ok or do they not want anyone running in the canals? If this is the case, I cannot see anyway to head west, I followed outside the canal, which is super sketchy I was hitting bottom running with the jackplate 5" up, and got as far as I could go until it was totally blocked off by weeds, and I still hadn't past the second spill way. Never seen anything like this before and was wondering if anyone could help a brother out. Quote
GLADES Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 From the ramp, head east 100 yards toward the spillway and make a wide U turn (stay away from the buoy) so you don't hit bottom. Punch the gas and head west on the inside. Once you come to the 1st spillway heading west, cut back over to the canal side. When you are running inside across the hydrilla, the water is very shallow, stay on plane. The canal that runs east/north is blocked due to the construction of a new water control impoundment. It will probably be closed for quite some time. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 26, 2011 Super User Posted April 26, 2011 Be very careful even while running on plane in the flats, I know Capt. Shane had some issues and his boat floats in spit. Try putting in on the far North ramp, by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office shooting range(Twenty-Mile Bend Ramp) or maybe Boyton so you can run the canals. Again, be very careful of bottoming out the boat, cause the Federal guys won't come marching with smiles on their faces to your rescue. Water is dropping as we speak! Quote
Shane Procell Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Iam done with Lox till I hear the water has come up. Quote
atrocity123 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 so are you allowed to be in the canals or not? I don't wanna be in them if I'm not suppose to Quote
SoFl-native Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Iam done with Lox till I hear the water has come up. Is there a story there? Quote
Shane Procell Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 No..just i'am just burned out on pulling up my trolling motor every couple of minutes to clear the prop. Quote
GLADES Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Lox is very weedy and it gets really tough to get around. I love the place but it can be a pain. I feel the same way as Shane, time to hit some different spots until the water comes up. Quote
bream getter Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Scout 60 and I were out there this morning. Put in at the north ramp and started fishing. Wind was up and we let it push us down the canal to the West. Did very well on top water Scout 60 and I both. Had a ball.We fished the West side and never got to the 1st. cut to the West. Quote
atrocity123 Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 Never got my original question answered Anyways barrier was removed from West canal Quote
