tritz18 Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Hey guys I spooled 12 lb Sunline Mono on two of my rods about 6 weeks ago. I am at school and my rods are at home....so they aren't getting used. I won't be home for another 3 weeks to use them and I was just wondering if I should think about getting new line to replace the mono that's on the reels now. I feel like 9 weeks of not being used will make the mono warped and it will probably ball up when casted. From past experience I am pretty sure I should get new line but I was just wondering what everyone's opinion on this was. Thanks Quote

jdw174 Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 No , just get some KVD line conditioner. I'll second this. Tossing out line that has been spooled for 9 weeks and hardly used is a waste of money IMO. Quote
tritz18 Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 Trust me I would rather keep the line than throw it out. I just wanna make sure that it won't effect my fishing. That's what I care most about Quote
Super User grimlin Posted April 24, 2011 Super User Posted April 24, 2011 It won't.....I still use the same mono on some of my baitcasters that's been sitting for over a year. I just spray some KVD line conditioner on the night before I use it.Probably don't need it but I do it anyways. Just keep em' out of sunlight and extreme temps. and the line will be fine. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 24, 2011 Super User Posted April 24, 2011 Line probably will be fine,I have mono spooled unused for a year or more with no ill affects. If I were overly concerned I would pour some hot water on it or better yet soak the spool. Cheap fix that works. Quote
Super User Marty Posted April 24, 2011 Super User Posted April 24, 2011 I've used mono for many years. If stored properly, no problem. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 no need to replace the line. it may coil up a bit at first but just getting it wet, and even catching a few fish will straighten it right out... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 25, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 25, 2011 Tie the end to something solid and walk off enough line to be past the distance you can cast. Pull like you are trying to break off on a snag just up to the breaking point of your line. This will take all the coil out of you line and you can slowly walk towards where your line is tied up at to crank it back on tight, good as new! Quote

I just did this with one of my setups and it worked great. I also soaked the line with KVD L&L. Quote
