Super User CWB Posted April 25, 2011 Super User Posted April 25, 2011 Thought this was pretty amusing. I've been waiting for KVD 1.5, as well as Silent Cranks in bluegill since early in February. I found a couple in bluegill in my travels, but never the 1.5. Finally got it today. What do you see is funny in the picture? Not that it really matters, but it really is pretty funny. (I'd post the three 2.5 models I have but they're not at hand. All of them are painted the correct way.) Please post a picture of the 2.5's and the 1.5 in the same shot. Also, where did you get the other cranks in bluegill color. I haven't found them anywhere and would like to get some. If you think there is a problem, I would contact Strike King as they are pretty responsive and will help you out. See SwimJigs pic. The baits I have look exactly the same but if you put it in water, the stripes appear. If you have a fishtank, drop one in there and look at it. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 25, 2011 I am not going to have time to get over to get at my 2.5s so I stopped on my way home and grabbed another 1.5 to show you what I'm talking about and that I'm not blowing smoke. 1.5 in box is brand new, never opened until a few minutes ago. 1.5 out of box is the one I took pictures of the other day. Super User Hooligan Posted April 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 25, 2011 As to where I found the Cranks I had to order them from BPS. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 25, 2011 Super User Posted April 25, 2011 Well I guess I'll eat my hat on this one. All my KVD's look like the one with the black dot, and all my Pro Series, Red Eye Shads, and Silent Stalkers look like the one with out the dot. Quote

I still think the whole thing is funny. Which is right, which is the goof? One of those deals. Quote
BIG M Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 To me the 1.5 looks more like a shell cracker pattern and the other bait looks like a blue gill. Most custom painters will shoot a shell cracker with more brown on the body and a blue/black head. Quote
Getfished Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 I was reading on another forum where a guy had a chartreuse/black 1.5 that he just received after waiting for a backorder. He said it came with a red gill plate but wasn't supposed to. Upon closer examination he decided the bait also had slightly different dimensions than one he had bought from BPS immediately after the Classic. The folks over there came to the conclusion that SK farmed the job out to a other producer to meet the demand. Who knows for sure? Funny thing is I picked up a chartreuse/black 1.5 from BPS right after the Classic and the first thing I did was go home and paint on a red gill plate. LOL ! (gave it a UV coating also). Quote
SausageFingers Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 I have a couple of the Blue Gill 2.5's. They look just like the picture on TW. One of my local tackle shops says Strike King won't be able to ship him any of the square bills until late June, early July. It wouldnt surprise me if they farmed out the production to meet the demand. Quote

Most custom painters will shoot a shell cracker with more brown on the body and a blue/black head. The 1.5 that matches the Pro Model cranks is what I would want in a bluegill pattern around here. The greens in the body and the Robin's Egg blue on the head, with the orange throat. The other doesn't look anything like any bluegill or sunfish I've ever seen. In the long run, though, I'm sure it won't matter. It will be close enough that the fish will eat it and that does matter. Quote
madbass Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Maybe it's just an illusion in the picture, but the lip looks different. The one without the black dot looks like the edges are beveled a little and the front corners are slightly more rounded. I do like the coloring of that one better. The ones I bought are like the one with the black spot. My airbrush will take care of that though! Quote

They're the same. Quote
cigarleaf Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 This was posted today at another site from a product manager for Strike King lure company. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/6110393/all/Fake_KVD_1_5_s "Folks, I am the product manager for Strike King lure company, and want to address everyone's concerns regarding the KVD squarebills. 1st, I assure you that other than a few "secret colors" KVD always uses off the shelf merchandise just like you and I!!! He is very adamant about all of his signature baits being of the highest quality, and will not endorse a product if it is not....Regarding the red gill plate on the color 535...It was originally spec'd out with the red gill plate, however, the first batch that we got in did not have the red gill plate, and that was the bait he was using in the Classic (because that was all he had). All, of the later production has had the red gill plate, which KVD actually prefers. Regsrding 1st batch, 2nd batch etc etc China vs Costa Rica etc etc....Please see the following: The majority of our hardbait production has come from our Costa Rican facility for the last several years. We switched to that location trying to increase the consisitency and the quality of our hardbaits, and we are very pleased with the results. Now specifically regarding the KVD squarebills: we actually developed both a Chinese manufacturing operation along with our Costa Rican operation. This allowed us to to have ample manufacturing capabilities and to be able to somewhat keep up with the demand. Yes there are some very very subtle differences to the eye, but there are no differences in the quality, how they run, or the fish catching abilities between the baits. All the baits feature the same quality components, from eyes to hooks to hand tuning. I would challenge any of you to find a KVD bait that doesn't run well assuming you haven't cracked it on your trolling motor!!!!! Regarding the Chinese made baits. These baits are held to the same high standards that we require from our Costa Rica Plant, and in fact, they have even surpassed those expectations in many cases. Also, just so there is no grey area here..IT IS NOT CHEAPER FOR US TO MANUFACTURE OUR PRODUCTS IN CHINA....It is simply another avenue for quality production. And as always, if you are not happy with a Strike King Product. Please call customer service and let us know. We always have and always will take care of you, because we are fisherman too!!!" 1 Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 26, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 26, 2011 That's cool, and all, but has absolutely no pertinence to the topic at hand. It has nothing to do with two different bluegill colors. Quote
