Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 23, 2011 Super User Posted April 23, 2011 You're a good son. Can I adopt you? Quote
hmongkidBee Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 The pixy's frame is a hair smaller than the daiwa sol. The sol is actually the same exact frame as the daiwa alphas. The difference between the two is the front plate on the reel. The pixy doesn't have a sharp triangle like shape for the front plate, instead it is straight. It is a really good reel and there really isn't any difference between the pixy models, it's just the colors. Quote

Brandon K. Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Where do you get these reels? I have all Diawa reels and would like to add one of these to the collection. Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 25, 2011 Super User Posted April 25, 2011 Silver Mica ---> Mainstream Frosted Orange & Silver ---> 2003 Limited edition Racing Yellow & Black ----> 2004 Limited edition Frosted Red & Silver ----> 2005 Limited edition Differences: Silver mica, 2003, 2004 ---> other than color: NONE 2005 ---> aluminum spool vs composite; cold forged handle vs stamped metal. The truth is that right now I wouldn´t consider purchasing an old Pixy when the new Pixy PX68 is readily available and has all the upgrades a lot of folks are doing to their old Pixies. PX68 Deeper spool ( that no matter what you do to your old Pixy it will still have the shallow spool ) More powerful drag ( that you have to upgrade in the old version and it´s not simply a matter of changing the pads, it requires parts to do it ) Faster speed ( that the old Pixies do not have and unless you change the gears your old Pixy will most probably won´t ever have ) Carbon fiber handle ( that you have to purchase for your old Pixy if you want it ) Tuned rotor ( bad news, they don´t sell that one ). Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted April 26, 2011 Super User Posted April 26, 2011 I bought an amber orange pixy last year for $170 on eBay. I was kind of iffy since it went for so low but it's a great little reel. Had to take a step back and learn how to cast it but now it works fine. If you do get an old one, there is a carbotex drop in kit that is well worth the purchase. Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 26, 2011 Super User Posted April 26, 2011 the 2004 is NIB for $265. does that change your mind? Nope, it´s not about price, it´s about how the reel works, I own 3 2005 ( 2 in use and 1 NIB ), I like them very much and they are perfect as they are for what I use them for which is light line/light lure but many times I wish they were more all around use ( because it´s real pleasure to fish with them ), and what I wish for ? more line capacity for heavier lines ( 10-12 lbs ), a more powerful drag and a little faster. The Pixy just isn't made for heavier use. It's designed for light tackle & small fish. The gears will wear out relatively quickly if you use it for heavier fishing, and you'll have a tough time finding magnesium gears. If you want a similar reel, but designed for the US market, just wait till ICAST & you'll see a new Daiwa reel that fits that description. Quote

And I was just trying to let you know that they were going to introduce a new reel based on the Pixy and designed for all around use. The key difference will be that it is made with more durable gears. Just trying to let you know you were sorta getting your wish. Quote
MarauderYak Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Alphas Finesse Custom It'll be lighter and IMO cooler than that reel. Quote
