B A S S E R Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Anyone else get ticked when you are missing fishing time because of work? Its worse for me because I work at Bass Pro so everyone comes in and talks about being able to go out and fish when I'm stuck in there all day! It's been over a week since I've been fishing and am missing Easter with my family because of work. I have to have a job though to support the bait monkey (and the gas monkey)!! Quote
BassThumb Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Just wait until you have to pay for more than just gas and tackle. Quote
OHIO Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I know the feeling. I work so much now, that I rarely get to fish. If I'm off work, I'm either too tired to go or the weather isn't cooperating. I really want to quit, but the money is just so good. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 23, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 23, 2011 I'm nearing the end of a 7 day marathon week. My schedule changed so I'm getting to work 7 days in a row before my next day off. Tonight is night 5 so I am getting there but it has been a slow process. On the plus side I have a 4 day extended guys fishing weekend coming up the first week of May! So getting everything prepared when I get off work has been keeping me busy and keeping my mind off the fact that I haven't been fishing in awhile. Quote
ROCbass Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Right now I'm in the midst of my end of semester crunch when all my big projects are due. I was planning on staying home all day yesterday to work on them, but my cousin called and asked if I wanted to go fishing, and I couldn't resist. I thought some time out on the water might clear my head and help me to focus when I got back, but it didn't work out that way. The whole time I was fishing, I just felt guilty and anxious because I wasn't getting any of my work done. On top of that, the lake was too high to cast from shore effectively because of all the brush, there was a cold wind blowing in our faces the whole time, and we got skunked. It was worse than not being able to go at all IMO. Quote
jeb2 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I feel for you guys. I was in the corporate grind for 32 years. But the best revenge is to retire early so you can fish all you want. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 23, 2011 Super User Posted April 23, 2011 It's OK fellas , you're all coping with real life situations and it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job of it. I 've been retired eleven years and sometimes things aren't as great as they look. Quote
guitarkid Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 yes, I work 2nd shift so at 11:30 at night the only thing that sounds good is sleep. -gk Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 23, 2011 Super User Posted April 23, 2011 Well with out work there would be no boat, no truck, no gas, no tackle. Seems how I am not a professionaly tournament angler, a need a real job to afford to fish. Who hasn't wished they were fishing insted of working. I guess I am lucky that my job doesn't have a "set" schedual and that I live and work 10 mins, from the local lake, even during a 70 hour week I can get out there. Quote
Oscar O. Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 If being away at college counts as work then yeah, it's been keeping me from fishing since the fall. Surprised I haven't lost it, I think the thought of summer break is what's keeping me sane for the next couple of weeks. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 24, 2011 Super User Posted April 24, 2011 That's why I love being a teacher I get weeks of just because of stupid "breaks" and all summer off just to fish. Plus I'm home by 245so I get out early on workdays to fish. But I wasn't at work all week been off sense last Friday only got out a handfull of times maybe 4hrs total the weather was sooooo cruddy only got 2 fish all week. Quote

I'm across the country from home, and there's pretty much nowhere to fish here, sooo I didn't even bring my stuff... Looking back on it, I think that was a mistake. Actually it's probably the opposite, it allowed me to stay focused on school, but it still would have been nice to fish for one day of the weekend Quote
choupique Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 I work an 7 and 7 schedual so I get plenty of time off to fish. Quote
royal0014 Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 I've been fishing twice this year. Today is the last day of my vacation, and I still have not been Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 24, 2011 Super User Posted April 24, 2011 Royal todays my last day also I doubt ill get out I hope to my gears in the van for when I'm at the inlaws I'm hoping me and my nephew can dart out after dinner for a hour or 2 Quote
Fish Chris Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Well, yea'.... work just sucks for getting into the way of anything fun But what are you going to do ? Hitting the lotto would be nice, huh ? One thing I am VERY lucky about, is that at least my two days off, are weekdays ! For about 8 years straight, it used to be 3 days a week off ! But the crappy economy killed that for me I'll tell you guys what, if I had a job that was Monday through Friday, I'd do anything I could to quit that job, and find something that gave me 2 (or 3 ) weekdays off instead ! That, or just quit fishing altogether. For me, fishing among crowds is not as enjoyable as sitting at home and watching TV. Put it this way, I'm NEVER off weekends... but my business is closed today for Easter Sunday. I was bummed when I found out about this... No money today + anywhere I might think about fishing, would look like a stinking zoo ! People freaking everywhere ! No thanks. So instead, I just plan to take care of a bunch of chores and errands + a good, hard early workout + some cardio.... then plenty of rest, for my two days of fishing > Mon Tues. Peace, Fish Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 24, 2011 Super User Posted April 24, 2011 Its gonna be worse for me this up coming fall till the following fall ill be over in the sand box of Afghanistan that means no fishing for a whole year Idk what I'm gonna do ill go crazy that's the ultimate work getting in the way of fun Quote
Super User grimlin Posted April 24, 2011 Super User Posted April 24, 2011 yes, I work 2nd shift so at 11:30 at night the only thing that sounds good is sleep. -gk Same situation here.....About the only time I can get out is Sunday. This weekend is a no go,family Easter dinner. We had ridiculous amount of rain and the flood gates are wide open.Wouldn't even keep a line in the water if I wanted to. We are looking at more rain all week. Top it off We just brought some new washer and dryer. We needed them badly. Looks like I'll be signing up for some overtime work for awhile. Can't really complain, least I have a job,we haven't totally recovered from that bad job recession here. Many people are still out of jobs and a few are now leaving Michigan to look for work. So I'm pretty thankful I'm working. Quote
flipnpitch 1 Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 I work 21 turn shift work so time is limited. Just gotta go when you can. I was on vacation this week and the weather totally sucked. Still managed to get out a couple of times. Back to the old grind tomorrow. Only two afternoon shifts tho and then hittin the lake Wednesday!! Quote
clipper Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 I retired last April expecting to fish and hunt anytime I wanted. My mother then lost her income so I am working again to help her with bills. I do enjoy working, but it would be nice to go fishing. My son took two of his nephews last weekend and caught 14 in about 4 hours. That made it even worse. Quote
