Rod Tip Ceramic Insert Popped Out :(

I was cleaning the guides with an ear bud dipped in alcohol yesterday, and the tip ceramic insert popped out, just like that. Must have taken a beating sometime previously, as this rod is about a year old, and I use it for 50% of my fishing.

I put the insert back in the guide, and pressed it in with a pair of needle-nose pliers, and it seems pretty stable now.

I looked up online, and evidently this problem is not very uncommon. Should I just replace the whole tip guide (seems to be the general consensus, and an easy and cheap repair job) or fish with it as it is?

J, I will call Powell once the clock strikes 12.00 here (9.00 am PST). I scoured their website last night, but found no way to purchase the tip separately. I just bought some hot glue too.

There's a crystallized glue that comes with the SC repair kit. Its the "nuts" as my dad would say. Way better than hot glue, though that works.

I just had this same problem on my bps extreme but idk where or when it disapeared but its not there

Rod tips are inexpensive, I'd just put a new one on. I have had an issue with only 1 guide from a rod of med to good quality only cheap rods that use cheap guides. It's not the rod being defective but the component being used The guides that I have had an insert come loose I just super glue it, worked good enough.

If you have the insert and the ring is not damaged, you can glue the insert back in place but the right way is to just replace the tip-top. If the manufacturer can't help, you can get a matching tip from Mudhole Tackle. Tips are sold by ring size and tube size. Tube sizes are 64ths of an inch. You wan to get the right size tube for a good fit.

Just called Powell and explained the problem. They suggested I replace the whole guide, and are shipping a replacement guide for free. Great customer service!

Good deal. When you remove the old one, heat it carefully and slide it staright off, no twisting. You can use hot melt glue or two part epoxy to install the new one. I recommend the hot melt. Epoxy is a PIA if you need to remove it for future repairs.

They make an inexpensive sizing tool for rod tips. Just remove the tip like Delaware said and then just put the tip on the tool and see what size you need. It's fast and easy and then you can just order whatever size you need and the brand you want.
