MaineBassMan Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Just got back from an uncomfortable day of fishing. Got on the lake around 0930 today, I almost didn't go because it was suppose to be very windy. It was suppose to be in the high 40's so I decided to go fishing instead of sitting around on my butt. Well the weather man was wrong again! It ended up only topping out at 41 degrees and thats not counting the 15-25mph winds. I tried fishing a couple of spots in the lake and ended up not getting any bites. So I decided to go and fish the stream out to the main river. The water was very high from all of the previous rain storms. There was a bunch of trees blown down into the water, which should make for some nice cover later on. The water temperature was right at 46 degrees. Came up to a beaver hut and started fishing in the stream. I grabbed my rod that had my 3/8 oz black and blue jig with a black and red fleck craw trailer. First cast tight in next to the beaver hut. I let the ripples settle and then I reeled in the slack. Bang bang, my first bite for the day, "awesome", my mind thought! I set the hook and reeled in my first very feisty largemouth for the day. He weighed two and a half pounds. Very healthy looking and boy he gave a good fight, even in cold water. This proved to be the pattern for the rest of the day. It was miserable out there though. It rained, then it haled, and then it snowed and the wind was awful. However! I had a great day of fishing! I caught 26 bass for the day. One dink but the rest were good solid 2 1/2 pound bass. I caught one 3 1/2 pound largemouth and lost one at the boat that looked to be in the four pound range. The highlight for the day was the beautiful 5 lbs 03 oz largemouth that I caught. It was the third bass for the day at that time. She was laying in about a foot of water right tight inside the alders. She put up a great fight and took lots of drag! And she put a big smile on my face. Going out again tomorrow. Going for smallmouths again. The trip to the stream: It was calm for the first hour, thats why the lake is so flat, that changed! Tempting shoreline: Should be good cover a little later on in the season: Quote
MaineBassMan Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 Lets start here! First fish of the day and the lure: Second fish of the day: Lets cast into these alders! Thunk thunk whats that? Oh ya a nice 5lbs 03 largey! Followed by a colorful dink: A 3 1/2 pounder A almost 3 pounder: Got too wet and cold no more bass pictures but it was 26 total for the day Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 22, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 22, 2011 Sometimes it pays to be a diehard! My biggest one so far this year was a 7+lber that came on a day with 25+mph winds, temps in the 30's, and snow! If I waited for nice weather I'd never get to go fishing! Good job! Quote

Hound_dog Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Some nice fish you got there. Your title says fishing solo....Just from a safety stand point anytime you are out by yourself you really should wear you life vest at all times. Its extremly important in cold water. If you were to go overboard, your body could be thrown into shock due to the cold water. The life jacket would be the only thing to save your life. Quote
