If any of you remember me talking about my dad's motor well, I found the problem. It is the ECU in the motor. It is a 1996 200HP Mariner EFI. The ECU is doing something to the EFI to where it isn't working consistantly. Sometimes it will fire, sometimes not, sometimes it will fire with little power, sometimes with full. The biggest problem now is that the part is $2000. Do any of you guys know where or how I can find the part cheaper than that?

Simon Motorsports rebuilds them for much less. I just had one rebuilt for $500 a few weeks ago off of a 1995 Mariner 200 EFI. They also give you a 1 year warrenty. CDI Electronics rebuilds also, but with no warranty that I am aware of and about $800-$1000. Also, Tony Brucato makes his own ECU and calls them an ACU or PCU. I havent used one, but Ive heard that they are much better than the Merc ECUs. Better fuel economy, better idle, and better power output from what Ive heard. They are $1000.

To find Simon Motorsports just google it. Mail it to em' and they can do it and send it off the day they recieve it. Turnaround is about a week.

Trust what? Simon Motorsports? If so, when I got mine back it fired up my engine like new and it does have a 1 year warranty. I mean heck, for $500 you could have it rebuilt 4 times before reaching the price of a new unit.

Brucato's ACU and PCU are used on most all racing motors these days. They are considered to be a huge upgrade from the stock ECU's. They have features such as setting your own fuel curve and all.
