GrundleLove Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Who do you think the Pro players are? Who they are? I don't know about 2.4% of all college players. Which is why college is boring. Let me hit you with some stats: Statistically of the 100,000 high school seniors who play football every year, only 215 will ever make an NFL roster. That is 0.2%! Even of the 9,000 players that make it to the college level( That's only Division 1 lolzz) only 310 are invited to the NFL scouting combine, the pool from which teams make their draft picks So its not like all the NFL players are on 1 team. They are spread like not enough butter on too much bread. Which is why college football sucks when you watch it, because the other 97.6% people playing aren't very good. My point proven. End of discussion. NFL > College Ball. 1 Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 21, 2011 Super User Posted April 21, 2011 If you don't think college football is entertaining, you should have watched the 2001 Miami Hurricanes. If you're a die hard NFL fan, several big name NFL stars played on that team. Back when they really had something to play for. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/243920-the-2001-hurricanes-the-best-team-ever The problem with the NFL is that you get paid no matter if you win, lose, or have a horrible season. A large portion of the kids in college are playing hard to hopefully have the chance to make those NFL bucks. Quote

NFL > College Ball. not totally true, players not invited to the combine can be drafted as well. and some players who do attend are not always drafted either. and also, with teams having roster limits there is only so many nfl jobs available for players, so the percentages you posted are bound to be flawed and/or skewed Quote

Super User 00 mod Posted April 21, 2011 Super User Posted April 21, 2011 If the NCAA had the same kind of roster restrictions as the NFL, then the numbers would show a more clear percentage, but since they don't, and I'm glad they dont, the numbers could NEVER be accurate! Thank goodness kids that aren't NFL material can play a sport, keep out of drugs and other bad behaviors, while still earning an education, and go on to get a good job and not be an overpaid thug! Think about 5 yr $40 million contracts...thats almost $4 a min 24/7/365! Wish I got paid that for playing football! Hell, I'd be a thug! Jeff Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted April 21, 2011 Super User Posted April 21, 2011 As far as Massachusetts goes, it's the cradle of education, Harvard is only 1 of many outstanding arenas of higher education, Michigan ain't too shabby either in that department. They have the Pats and Tom Brady is from, where else........Michigan! Wolverines : have won the most games in college football history have the best fight song have 39 straight winning seasons have 11 national Titles have won 42 Big ten titles have been to over 30 straight bowl games have near record attendance, nearly 110,000 per game Hey Snook -- UM didn't do to a Bowl in 2008 or 2009 so I think you can consider that bowl streak snapped Quote

Probably a 0.01% margin of error. OooOOOoOOOoOO You're free to feel what you want, but you can't justify your argument by throwing figures out there. In Mass, there's not really any big-time college football so I'm guessing you haven't had the chance to attend many college games. The atmosphere, the passion, the fact that you can be in classes M-F with a guy who is a college All American on Saturdays all lead to a totally different feel than the pro game. The quality of the players is no doubt higher in the NFL, but that doesn't always mean the fan enjoyment must be higher in the NFL. And I'm sure you feel differently, but I'm not a terribly big fan of the prospect of a lockout because the billionaire NFL owners are complaining about the millionaire NFL players, and vice versa. I would love nothing more than seeing fan attendance down significantly if there is a 2011 season so these jokers remember the ridiculously privileged they have to make their income the way they do. In an economy like this one, I think the American public should be insulted by the crap the NFL players and owners are pulling. But the fans will come back regardless, unfortunately, and the owners and players won't make a nickel less than before. Quote

Bass_Fanatic Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Each and every game in college football is important. 1 loss and you could loose your shot at a Title. NFL you can win less than half of your games (Seattle 7-9) and still make the playoffs and play for a ring. NFL is boring until playoffs. Even then it doesnt measure up to a night game in Death Valley. Its nothing like tailgating days before the game, eating gator meat, and then whooping some gator butt on Saturday!! And that goes for those dang hogs too!! 1 Quote

tipptruck1 Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 I will chose college ball any day over pro ball. There is a lot of reasons why I would. Most of them have all ready been listed. I will sit down on a Saturday and turn on ESPN,CBS,ABC,NBC, and Big ten network and watch almost 16 hours of college ball. I might not be watching the games but there on. As for the pros I could care less if I miss a game. I will only watch the packers. I don't think I saw a full game of there's last year. I didn't even watch the super bowl. I was watching reruns of Top gear. I really don't know why all of a sudden the last few years I have stopped watching the NFL. I think a big part of it is the players crying about money. The other part ESPN cramming it down our throats 24/7. I only care about the NFL durning the NFL season. Also I heard today on ESPN that some one is sueing the bcs for a playoff. As far as the bcs vs playoff gos I don't know which one I would like. The only way we could find out is to do a playoff. I have a feeling that people will still cry they didn't get it right. Even if they go to a playoff there will still be teams left out. 1 Quote

Super User Sam Posted April 22, 2011 Super User Posted April 22, 2011 Guys, the northeast has no interest in college football. This is pure NFL territority. UMass has some good football teams for Division II but that is about it. My ACC friends say adding Boston College to the conference was a big mistake. Unfriendly place to tailgate and it is too cold to enjoy the games. Other than for the northeast, college football is thriving and getting better and better. Nothing can beat the fans passion, pagentry, excitement and the fun of a college football game. And talk about boring, the NFL is boring. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted April 22, 2011 Super User Posted April 22, 2011 I would like to experience a game at night in Tiger Stadium. With that being said, LSU will get beat in Bryant-Denny Stadium. And to the Penn State fans throwing the "whiteout" September 10th. All I got to say is, Georgia had a "blackout" in 2008 and Alabama power went and turned it back on! I guess we'll turn the lights off in College Station. Alabama's defense will be back next year and with quality cannons at the quarterback position, we'll be rolling high. Don't forget Trent Richardson is going to get the workload next year, can't stop him when he 100% and ready to run. Not to mention he out bench the entire offense of line. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Did I happen to mention that these figures came from the NFLPA? Take it up with them. And skewed? yes. Probably a 0.01% margin of error. OooOOOoOOOoOO the numbers are skewed because you have way more guys trying to make it to the NFL than actually do make it, its not because those guys arent talented, its because only so many can be kept, some guys get caught in a numbers game at their position. others simply get beat out for the job. nfl teams carry around 80 players in the offseason i believe, only 53 make the final roster, so yes that skews percentages. also teams might be stacked at certain positions, but they also bring in "camp bodies" at that position, knowing those players will only make the team if there is a major injury. teams will do things like bring in an extra kicker even though theyre settled at the position, they do this to keep the incumbents leg fresher, not because they need competition or a new kicker. the NFLPA figures dont account for such scenarios. and why would i take it up with the NFLPA, youre the one involved in the discussion and quoting them as some end-all be-all. and of course there is way more college teams than nfl teams, therefore more college players challenging for jobs. and lets not forget the college players who only play football for the scholarships so they can get an education to be what they really want to be... We shall see my friend...we shall see!! Bama will be solid, but LSU returns pretty much everybody on defense with the exception of Nevis, Peterson, and Sheppard. Offensively we lost Ridley, Tolliver, and a lineman or two, but we upgraded at QB (Mettenberger) and have about 15 RB's who can easily replace Ridley. Oh and did I mention we got the #1 lineman in the nation in Anthony Johnson. It should be a great game, but the Tigers will prevail! 1 Quote

The SEC is riding high now giving those big paychecks...oh sorry I mean "scholarships" to players but the Horns will return badder than ever. Besides when we win national championships we make it a point to win ALL the games. Food for thought. Capt.O Quote

Super User Sam Posted April 23, 2011 Super User Posted April 23, 2011 When the Golden Band from Tiger Land starts to march onto the field with 92,000+ clapping their hands in rythum to the beat, you get goosebumps. Then, when the band strikes those four famous keys, the crowd goes bonkers. Yes, it is Saturday Night in Tiger Stadium. Nothing like it in the world. If you have never been to a night LSU football game do your self a favor and try to get tickets and attend. You will never forget that experience. 1 Quote
