PondBoss Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Any fishing news or reports? Water temps, patterns, tactic suggestions? Thanks Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 20, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 20, 2011 I heard through the grapevine there was good bite in Aunt's Creek last weekend on squarebills and jerkbaits and even a pretty good topwater bite. I love Aunt's Creek and have done really well there early in the year. I've had my best luck with a shakeyhead and a jig but I would not pass up the chance to toss a topwater down there! Quote
PondBoss Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 I will be staying at Big Cedar Lodge, where is Aunt's Creek roughly from there? Thanks for the heads up. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 21, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 21, 2011 You will be quite a ways from Aunt's creek then. http://www.swl.usace.army.mil/parks/tablerock/pdf/tr_lake_map3.pdf Aunt's creek is to the Northwest of Kimberling City. My wife and I stayed at Big Cedar a couple years ago and I actually did really well in the cove that the lodge is in. I also did very well around the Long Creek area if you go out of the Big Cedar Lodge cove and turn south and go under the bridge there is some pretty steep chunk rock banks that had loads of chunky spotted bass on them. My biggest one that weeked was a fat largemouth around 5lbs on a wigglewart but I caught lots of fish on a shakeyhead and jerkbait also. Quote
KC Bass Fanatic Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Cow creek is one of my favorite spots this time of year. It's on any fishing map and is SE of Kimberling City. As posted earlier Big and Little Aunt's are great Spring spots as well, but that's a long haul from Big Cedar. Quote
PondBoss Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 Unfortunately we got rained out, as apparently it is monsoon season this week. We did get to fish for about an hour and did manage to catch a nice meanmouth (1 1/2 lb)and solid largemouth (5 lb) before we called it quits. Our guide was and is a really nice guy and comped a future trip for us next time we come to town. Can't wait to get out again, hopefully with better weather. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 25, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 25, 2011 What is this "rained out" you speak of? I thought that's what they made rain gear for! That's too bad though, you had almost perfect timing to really catch some fish down there. At least your guide was understanding enough and a good enough buisnessman to comp you a free trip. Quote
PondBoss Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 "Rained out" means it rained buckets for the entire weekend. Our raingear definitely kept us dry, but funny how we all forget about our shoes. Hell it's still raining there, the lake rose about 6 inches in half a day. Can't wait to go back this summer and get a hold of some big smallies. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 27, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 27, 2011 Yea that would suck if you forgot boots. I always have my rubber boots in the back of the truck and some neoprene gloves to keep them dry if it's raining and cold out. If you go back this summer make sure it's before it gets too hot or wait until it starts to cool down. That lake is flat out tough when the water gets hot! Quote
srv1990 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 As of 7:00am this morning the lake was at 935.03 and they were releasing 68,000 cfs, both of which I believe are records. 937 is an 'emergency elevation status' and would cause them to have to use the spillway for the excess. Let's hope that doesn't happen. The corps has cancelled tournaments on Table Rock until at least May 1st. The water patrol is asking boaters to stay off the lake at least through this weekend due to the vast amounts of debris floating on the lake... and dangerously just under the surface. If you go this weekend, please be extra careful. Good luck! Tom Quote
PondBoss Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 Going back the first weekend in June. I'm super hacked to go, especially since my wife decided she would just go shopping and let me go alone this time. lol Can't wait to get back up there with my guide Phillip Stone and catch some more big fish. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 6, 2011 Global Moderator Posted May 6, 2011 You should be able to get some nice fish down there around that time, especially since it's been such a cold spring. Fish should be postspawn/early summer routines and weather should be stabilizing. I know I'm jealous, I love fishing the Rock but not sure if I'm going to get to this year . Quote
rubba bubba Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Another option is Goretex socks - easily stowed in your tackle box. I have a pair of these and they're invaluable for many things waterproof boots don't work well for: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_511792_-1___ (note you wear them over your regular socks and then in whatever shoe/sandal/whatever you are wearing) Quote
