FL_Sharpshooter Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Anyone know of a type of shades that slip over seeing-eye glasses? I have been using those clip on shades, and they just let in way too much light from the sides, bottom, and top. I need something that hugs against my face. Is there even such a thing on the market? I would just wear contact lenses and just wear a regular pair of shades, but I am unable to wear contacts. Quote

Cocoons. http://www.cocoonseyewear.com/ The other thing to try, no matter how severe your correction, is to see who will or will not make a glass in prescription polarized. A friend of mine that has really heavy correct was able to get a pair of Oakley's made. Quote
zenyoungkoh Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 are clip ons sufficient to do the job? I just ordered 1 lol Quote

I'm sure your friend paid an arm and a leg for those oakley glasses though. Thanks for letting me know. are clip ons sufficient to do the job? I just ordered 1 lol They definitely help as far as the shade they provide, but like I said, they just let in too much light from all of the sides. You need something that blocks out your peripheral vision. Quote
Big-B_2579 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I have had the same problem with eyeglasses/sunglasses. I can't wear contacts because of work. (and my insurance only pays for one or the other) . Right now , I have a pair of sunglasses called fit-overs that fit right over my glasses. They work pretty good , and are basically the same as cocoons . The cocoons didn't fit my huge head very well , Haha. Also , my eye doctors office carries the Wiley X brand glasses , and I've been looking into having some of those made in prescriptions, like hooligan said. The frames are not bad $ , just don't know yet about the lenses. But , you're right , probably will be expensive , but I've gotten to where I CANNOT fish without polarized glasses so it'll probably be worth the price for me. Anyway , I would try the Cocoons , or Fit-Overs . They both get the job done. Hope this helps . (good to know I'm not the only one with this problem, Haha) Quote
bass or bass ? Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I use Cocoons over my glasses and love them. I use copper lenses. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 20, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 20, 2011 Pretty sure Ike uses/used to use Cocoons? They seem to keep the light out pretty well without being huge, bulky things like you might expect. Quote

(good to know I'm not the only one with this problem, Haha) You must have too many brains in there, haha. I saw those fit-overs too when I was looking at the cocoons. I'm just really concerned about them blocking out light, you can't really see how close they attach to your face. Thanks for the help buddy, I'm also glad I too am not the only one looking for these. I use Cocoons over my glasses and love them. I use copper lenses. How well do those block out light for you? Pretty sure Ike uses/used to use Cocoons? They seem to keep the light out pretty well without being huge, bulky things like you might expect. Yeah Ike does, and I also noticed Ish Monroe does too. Actually, there's a contest going on right now to win a pair of ike's signature glasses and his book. Thanks for the info on those . Quote

dulouz Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I am in the same boat as the rest of you guys. I my eyes are really bad and can't wear contacts. I usually get frames that come with magnetic sunglasses, but they are usually small and round and A LOT of light gets through the sides. I am glad to hear that the cocoons work well. How do they feel, are they light? I don't want something that feels bulky and uncomfortable. And, I don't mean to sound vain, but how do they look? Do they look cool? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 20, 2011 Super User Posted April 20, 2011 Why not look into prescription sunglasses? Quote
chromedog Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I have had the fit over Cocoons and I just got the spring loaded Cocoons that slip on. The fit overs were fine and did block a lot of light. But I couldn't stand the two glasses thing. I went with the Cocoons with the spring in the middle and I like them. I don't feel like I am wearing extra now, but they do let in more light that the fit overs. But not to the point where they are annoying. Hope that helps. Quote
dulouz Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Why not look into prescription sunglasses? My last pair of glasses cost me $350 and that was on sale! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 20, 2011 Super User Posted April 20, 2011 I priced out Rudy Projects from my eye doc, and it wasn't at all that bad. I seem to remember $150 sticking in my head. Now, my regular prescription glasses.....yeah, $450, LOL. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 20, 2011 Super User Posted April 20, 2011 I think Smith prescription is only an additional $40 or $50 above regular retail. Oakley's aren't bad as far as cost, either. Quote
NBR Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I have both Cocoons and Fitovers. I like the Fitovers better. Quote

Thanks for the review, I'm still deciding between the two. I might just go with the fit-overs since you're saying they let in less light, which is a really big problem for me. I have both Cocoons and Fitovers. I like the Fitovers better. Thanks for your honest opinion, that helps. Quote
