AlexD Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I am a student at the University of Cincinnati and a weekend fisherman. I am looking into designing a sustainable lure packaging. I am wondering if you are more likely to buy a bass crank bait if it is packaged inside a usable floater/bobber, or, would you be more interested in a high quality protective case that would have the ability to attach to identical cases, to form a small tackle organizer, and/or have a belt clip for easy transportation when walking around the lake with a select few lures. Any comments and suggests would be very beneficial in developing my final design. Thanks Alex Quote
FAC Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 out of the two options you suggest I would prefer the second, but I would prefer, over anything else, simpler packaging that wastes less. like some of the spinner baits that only have tags on them. I think that when it comes to packaging less is more. Quote

I'm a hop a way from you!! although none would really pursuade me to buy a crank i think the "bobber" option would be pretty cool. most people use bobbers at one point. thats a slick way to go. me on the other hand would not need anymore items to add another case to the ones i have now.......easier to throw away the package the contents came in. Shad_Master Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I am not sure I can visualize exactly what you are describing - but that is probably becuase work has me brain dead right now - but for me, the best option would be something reusable that would keep the crank bait from getting hooked on the other rods in my rod box and that would fit inside a rod sock as well. May be a little too much to ask for, but dreams do come true some times. Quote

Natural resources which take millions of years to materialize which we use to create plastics that won't biodegrade and we use one time for 10 minutes and then throw away. It's difficult to believe what we are doing to ourselves but just look at the facts. Package them in something nutritionally edible. 1 Quote

Would we then have to keep them in a vending machine? Rotate them out if they sit for too long? Would all Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas be subject to restaurant laws? Will there be prepared food taxes on lures? And don't get me started on the enviro-extremist perpetuated myths behind the buzzword biodegradable... Quote

Like if you buy 10 baits and return the package to the store you bought them from then you get a free t-shirt or a 5 dollar rebate. I already recycle the cardboard and plastic from most bait packages so something like that would be awesome! 1 Quote

Lot's of people handle my food before I ingest it. I just use prudent measures to safely prepare it. Many institutions do the same before I ever get my hands on it. It's called preservatives. There are other solutions also. Maybe something nutritionally edible isn't reasonable but they did put a guy on the moon once , so ........ Good feedback. Quote

But, if the same two lures are put side by side, I am going to buy the cheaper one. Most recycable products actually cost more. If the "box" was easily converted into an on-line, on-rod, lure case to use while in storage, this may be something I would consider. It'd be like buying one and getting two. Something along the lines of the rat-l-traps could easily be converted to do this? I'm sure there are tons of ideas. But, something that would reduce the overall cost of the lure is going to help a ton. Pretty wraps and paint jobs only catch so many fisherman... Quote

It comes with a pretty nice re-useable hard plastic case. The lure itself looks and built like it would cost more than $8.00 The casing was really good that it made the lure that comes with it seems like a bonus Quote
