jseibers Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I have a 24v evinrude trolling motor, I had been have issues with a short in the plug. While trolling full power saturday the motor just stopped. Tried wiggling the plug but it didn't help this time. I got home, took the plug apart and the positive wire was loose (pretty much disconnected). I fixed that problem but the motor still wouldn't work. Used a test light with the light grounded to the main plug ground and had power running into and out of the pedal. Grounded the light to the head of the trolling motor and no power at all coming to the trolling motor head, on the same wire that had power coming out of the pedal. Do I have a ground issue? Please help I love this trolling motor when it is running but getting tired of the electrical issues. Thank you. Quote
MaBasser Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I have a 24v minnkota and I was having the same issues as you, messing around with wires for days trying to figure out the problem, sometimes it would kick in, most times not. After doing some research I figured out the Main control board was just about fried. I'm not sure how old your motor is but it's something to look into. They are easily replaced and I'm back on the water now. Just search control board for your make and model and you will find a bunch of stuff. Too easy to do yourself so don't pay someone. Just make sure you have the instructions for the new board and it will take you about 20 minutes with all color coated directions. Good luck! Quote
quanjig Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Have you checked all of your connections in the head of the tm? Corrosion around some of the terminals can cause enough of a power draw to cause failure Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 also if there is a fuse on the power wire check that and if you do have the same issue after changing the fuse put one size bigger and it will run on full power with out cutting out but if u have a lose connection that can sometimes cause a short but like he said check ur connections and if u have a fuse anywhere hope it helps man Quote
hootersdoug Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I am guessing its a fuse on the power wires back by the batteries as mentioned before Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 23, 2011 Super User Posted April 23, 2011 also if there is a fuse on the power wire check that and if you do have the same issue after changing the fuse put one size bigger and it will run on full power with out cutting out but if u have a lose connection that can sometimes cause a short but like he said check ur connections and if u have a fuse anywhere hope it helps man Geez! What we have here is a paragraph with zero capitalization, zero punctuation, lazy and incorrect spelling, AND, the wrong recommendation. Never replace the manufacturer's recommended fuse rating with a larger one. You will void your warranty and will probably damage your equipment. Quote
