bassnleo Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Just wanted to know if anyone has used the Trokar Tournament Tube Hook yet? I just ordered a pack to try out for flippin tubes, gonna stray from my Eagle Claw HP style, just for a try. The HP does a good job of keeping the tube in place, especially on a tube with a hollow head. The Trokar Barb has me interested. The weak point with the HP hook is the metal clip. I bend those things left and right and once they are bent they are junk. I suspect the Trokar may do ok with a solid head tube (like the Strike King Denny Brauer style) but a regular Gamakatsu superline hook does as well. The test will be with the hollow head tubes like I mentioned. Quote

I fish these hooks for all style tubes and its a great hook. Its definetly worth the extra money to me for the Trokar tube hook . Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 18, 2011 Super User Posted April 18, 2011 The Mustad hook is quite nice as well. The pin is welded instead o f plastic. Quote
CKFishin Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Those Trokar hooks are wicked sharp. My war eagle spinnerbaits have them and putting them in the FTO box I nearly ran one into my finger with minimal pressure. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 19, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 19, 2011 Do the Trokars keep a point very well? I've heard they're very sharp but lose that point very quickly even just after catching a half dozen fish or so. Any experienced this problem with them? I like sharp hooks but not expensive sharp hooks that are only good for a few fish. Quote
pat_walker_fishing Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I absolutly love them......they work on both tube types......i can only get them in 3/0 here in memphis, i think thats the largest size our bps carries but they are great...but expensive Quote

I'm using the Flipping Hook, Light Wire Worm, and the HD worm; to this point the main issue that I'd had was breaking the hook. That was in the very first package that I had and they were replaced by the manufacturer. I haven't noticed any problem of rolling points, but many people have claimed that issue, as yet I've not had it. Quote
bassnleo Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks for the replies, but I guess I want to know is how does the Trokar's Barb keep the tube in place? Two prominent reasons for missed or lost fish when texas rigging a tube: 1. Tube slides down the hook and "balls up" around the hook and bend thus not allowing good penetration, 2. The hook gap is not wide enough for the wall thickness, and overall thickness and hardness of the tube's plastic. Number 2 is usually easy to fix, use a wider gap hook. The Trokar's kahle style should be ok in those terms. Number 1 is the main culprit regarding lost fish and what I'm most interested in regarding the Trokar. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 20, 2011 Super User Posted April 20, 2011 OK. Gotcha. I've not spent a whole lot of time with the Tube hooks, so I can't answer that. I got a pack last week, haven't used them because winter decided to return. I figured to give them a shot. If I do before you, I'll let you know how they turn out. Quote
bassnleo Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 I'll have a pack tomorrow from Tackle Warehouse. I will be trying them myself this weekend so I'll report back! Quote
