zenyoungkoh Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I found a ~1 acre pond in my grandparent's neighborhood. Its pretty shallow around 2.5ft to 3ft deep. I've seen some bass in it, most of them are about a ft long or less. Water is brownish clear. Its in southern california so weather is now jumping around 65-85. How would you fish it? Quote
hmongkidBee Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Throw a texas rigged senko or fat ika weightless. This is deadly on these small ponds. Colors I would choose are watermelon/black flake, green pumpkin/blake flake, and watermelon candy. Quote
zenyoungkoh Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks. Another note, they are in post spawn/ spawn stage now. How big of a senko should i throw? Quote
Quitlimpin Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Throw a 4" or 5" senko till your arm falls off Quote

ArmyAngler Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Senko will work great, also try a small spinner and/or buzz bait. During spawn they are more aggressive so fast, exciting lures will trigger strikes. Fighting pond sized bass with a lightweight rig is always a good time! Quote
zenyoungkoh Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 what should i use for post spawn bass? I jus got into bass fishing so its my first time fishing for post spawn bass. Quote
Oscar O. Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Try some topwater baits during the post spawn. You can get some really fun fishing that way, especially since the pond is shallow, you'll be able to cover a lot of water. Personally I'd use a buzzbait to search around and if there's any thick cover, it's time to bring out the frog . If they don't respond well to topwaters, then try a soft/hard jerkbait or shallow/lipless cranks. Another thing you can try is to use a deep running crank in the shallow water to make it run against the bottom and it'll kick up residue of the bottom and get the attention of a bass. And if all else fails use a senko type bait. I leave it for last because it's the slowest of the presentations and it doesn't fit my personal style, BUT it is effective. Quote
