Super User flechero Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 just wondering where you guys get your o-rings for wacky rigging? Is the little tool worth buying or can you just slide them on without it? Thanks Quote
heyvern Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I get mine at the hardware store, 1 doz. for about a buck. Quote
andamtoft Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I do not use an o-ring thing, but if you buy a bic wide body pen and just take the guts out of it so its just the shell it will do the same thing for you and it will only cost you a dollar and a few pennies from staples Quote
shortbasser Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Just recently bought the tool and a supply of O-rings from BPS. Early indications are it was worth it. Those rings don't seem to slide too easy on the Senko type baits. It's a tight fit and I came close to tearing a couple. Shortbasser Quote
rippin_lips Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I bought the tool last year and love it. I actually lost it for a few weeks and had to resort to putting o rings on with 2 pairs of pliers. It was not easy and almost impossible to do solo. For the price, save yourself the aggravation and buy the tool. Also, the o-rings that they sell with it are much cheaper than I have found at a hardware store. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 well worth it. i got the tool with 10 o-rings from cabelas. then ordered 100 for $3.50, free shipping, on ebay. i know others say use heat shrink wrap instead of an o-ring, but i have had success with the o-ring so i am sticking with them. i just caught 15 fish on the same worm (***), using an o-ring and a 1/0 weedless wacky hook Mustad. i was worried about hook up since the hook now sits horizontal to worm. but i haven't had any problems like i thought. Do you remember which seller and size? I was looking at them just now and they seem to have no sizing consistency. Some say up to 5" and some said 5" and larger but not "slim" versions, etc. I just didn't know which was the best size. One guy had the tool pls 100 lg and 100 sm rings for like $10. Quote
NBR Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 If I remember correctly the best price I've seen was from Case Plastics. Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 Waste of time and money-----do it this way: The bottom rig gets better hookups Quote
MillerTime Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 i use rubberband hair ties doubled over so it's no more expensive or timewasting for me, but i can see how it would be for o-ring users. what material is that on your senko? Quote
bassin is addicting Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 seller name on ebay atrevizo1 item number 310140466300 good luck. he has many listings for these. can't beat the $3.50 and free shipping i asked him about "size" before i bought because i saw different sizes too. but all went well. Quote

It looks like heat shrink tubing. If it is, it's available at any radio shack. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 "use 2 o-rings and hook thru the X. " i can't get them to X. ?? they are on tight and seem to stay as put on? but i still have not had any hook-up problems. and much easier than the heat shrink wrap. IMHO plus if/when worm finally gets too torn up, i can reuse o-ring... lol!! no that's recycling 8-) Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 6, 2009 Super User Posted May 6, 2009 Yes, it is electrical heat shrink tubing in the 3/8" size. I don't heat it to make it smaller, some may want a tighter fit and may do so. The small piece can be reused numerous times. Quote
AZfishrman01 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Sorry if someone has already said this. There are just way too many pages of this to read through. ;D My personal favorite form of o-rings are actually clear hair bands from Wal-Mart. There about a dollar or so for a bag. If you get lucky like I did, you may be able to find the bulk bag of 100 instead of the regular bag of 25. Just use a pair needlnose pliers and wrap the band around the pliers a couple times then slip it onto your designated plastic. Hope this helps. Quote
