WdyCrankbait Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Anyone use or own a Shimano Saros F reel? What do you think of it? Thanks, Wdy Quote
trevor Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Yes I own one, and they're awesome. The only difference I can find between them and the Stradic is that the Stradic moves the spool shaft up and down by a worm gear, and the Saros uses a normal gear. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted April 17, 2011 Author Posted April 17, 2011 Thanks trevor.......I am looking at the 3000. I need a medium spinnig reel that I am going to pair with a medium or med./heavy spin rod. What do you have your Saros F sitting on? Quote
shootermcbob Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 I have the saros in the 3000 size. Very nice, smooth on the retrieve. casts very well and has a very smooth drag as well. Quote
trevor Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Mine is also a 3000. I use it for both inshore and freshwater fishing. I have it on a Compre 7ft M rod, and it balances perfectly for my grip (three fingers in front of the reel stem, one behind). Quote
johnD. Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 I use a Saros 3000 for inshore saltwater with a St.Croix Tidemaster TIS76MF #20 braid. I have caught just about everything on that set up.Snook , over slot reds, juvenile tarpon ,speckled trout, flounder, blue fish, spanish macks etc. etc.Keep it lubed and it should last you life time bass fishing.Don't forget to keep the line roller lubed. WdyCrankbait Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks for the help. I might down grade and get the 2500 now, but not sure. Don't worry I am very careful with my reels. Every year I get them tore apart and oiled up and I even do that before I take them fishing for the first just to make sure it is oiled up. Quote
BassThumb Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I've owned a Saros 2500F for a couple seasons. I use it on my dock skipping combo and I'm very happy with it. It's a smooth, solid reel with a good drag. I think it's a bargain for the price of about $110. Maybe the best spinning reel I've owned in the $100 range. You can buy from this seller with confidence. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Shimano-Saros-SAR-2500-Spinning-Reel-SAR2500F-/380308094743?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588c20ff17#ht_1891wt_907 Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I have three of the 3000 size. Two are on Lamiglas Excel 703S and the third on a Certified Pro 703S. I really like this model and it's features. They handle 90% of my smallmouth work. Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 My Saros 2500 F has performed very well. No complaints. Quote
atrocity123 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks for the help. I might down grade and get the 2500 now, but not sure. Don't worry I am very careful with my reels. Every year I get them tore apart and oiled up and I even do that before I take them fishing for the first just to make sure it is oiled up. The saros 2500 and 3000 are the same only different spool size, spools and handles are interchangeable. My saros's have been used for everything, bass, grouper, snapper, snook etc. Things are tanks. Shane Procell Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I have been using saros 2500's for the last 3 years for my charter business. I have 5 of them and just added a 3000 this season. They have held up nicely with minimal maintenance(Lube jobs only. Never had any problems. The extra spool is nice and the handles change out quick and easy. Mine are mounted on 6'6" MHF Carrot Sticks and MHXF 6'8" Cumaras. Quote
