Mich. St8 Spartan Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Getting a new reel for a flipping/pitching rod. What are your opinions on the Accurist PT? Quote
Super User grimlin Posted April 17, 2011 Super User Posted April 17, 2011 Good reel.I liked mine. Not the most popular name brand on this board.Accurist are one of the few reels from quantum that doesn't get the negative feedback as badly as their other reels do. Only negitive thing I could say about it was the paint/comedic doesn't seem to hold. Prone to scratches and boat rash pretty easily. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 I have one of the older 500 series PT reels and never had any problems out of it. It's a very solid reel and the older models can be had on ebay for around $50. Solid drag and no problems with the finish for me fishing from the shore. Flipping switch can be a little tough to move initially but the reel is solid all the way around. Quote
mferris Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 i've got 3 accurists that are at least 5yrs old...never had an issue and i also have 2 newer ones about 2 or 3 yrs old.i bought some new reels this year and am using one old accurist over a daiwa supertuned advantage i bought about 3 yrs ago....all toll i have eight quantums and never had any problems with them Quote
Evans Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 I had an older accurist PT and an older accurist 2. Both are pretty decent reels but the accurist PT did not hold as well as I thought it should have. It started making some funny noises on casts about a year after I got it and would not cast as far. Oiled it and greased it up and it still did it. Also the older quantums seem to have a problem with the casting button sticking when you try to engage the reel. My dad has one of the older Energy baitcasters that was absolutely horrible for this as well. The accurist seems to be a little better than his old energey, but it still has some issues. The red accurist 2 that I got is still doing great. It's a little bit younger than the pt, but it casts really well and the guy that has it now has done nothing but praise it as well. From a budget standpoint, hard to beat those $40-50 prices on ebay for the accurist models! Quote
brophog Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Have several Accurists from before that time, and they hold up fine. They really need new spool bearings to really shine (imo stock bearings leave a bit to be desired), but the overall construction isn't too bad for what they cost. I simply keep them lubed properly, break them down about once a year and I've never had serious problems with any of them. They're decent reels, and a pretty good deal. I've never cared for the flipping switch, but I don't really use it, either. I certainly wouldn't buy one for that particular feature. Quote
The Guy Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 i have a 501pt and love it so far. I use it for pitching 99% of the time and have the flipping switch on all the time, tied my PB(9lbs) with it a few months ago also. I can't comment on longevity though as I haven't had it very long. It was only $50 on ebay brand new Quote
piscicidal Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Accurist PTs are fine reels. I am less impressed with some of Quantum's other offerings (besides Smoke). You can get PTs new on EBAY for ~$80 and used ~$40. IMO, the best value around in bass fishing reels... Quote
