jbird9009 Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 alright so last week i was finally putting line on my baitcaster after a year or so of spinning reels and my english coonhound got ahold of the rod tip with lockjaw.... it snapped..... yesterday doing some ultralight fishing i got snagged up and put to much stress on the pole as the canoe was being blown around like a trailer in a tornado... snapped that rod aswell.. I do most of my bass fishing with different sorts of soft plastics. ive still got my shakespere reel ultralight. so im looking for another rod for it.. what rod lenghts do you guys recommend in an ultra light setup? i think i had a 5'6.. not sure. this'll be temporary and used for bass/panfish/trout. this is a rod that stays in the truck for improptu fishing trips next question. im looking to get another quality spinning combo. havent made up my mind yet... bet away from fishing for a while and need to do some more research. dont need nothing fancy. once again this combo will be used lots with soft plastics maybe a little topwater. what length and action should i look for, so i can feel what my lures doing on the bottom of the lake? fished with a mitchell for a while but it felt kinda cheap. might still have the reel somewhere but im ready for something a little smoother... any help is appreciated Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 17, 2011 Super User Posted April 17, 2011 Two threads recently started by the same gentleman. Another More Do a search here and on a couple other forums. You will find a lot of information. One thing to look out for if thinking about a Berkley Lightning rod is that they make 2 models I'm aware of, the Lightning and the Lightning Shock. Checked Wal-Marts online and it seems they only carry the Lightning. I personally think the Shock model is worth the extra $10 in components alone. Some people make do with a Medium, but my preference is for medium heavy with a fast tip. I picked up a Daiwa Cielo Worm & Jig Spinning rod on closeout at ohya for $75. I've seen them advertised for $125-$150. This was over the winter, and I haven't been out fishing yet, but I've got to say this is one very nice looking rod. They were going for $300+ when in production. Can't wait to get it out. Maybe next weekend. Good luck with your search. Looking is at least half the fun although too much can confuse the devil out of you. So many good choices. You can wind up or going Quote
A-Rob Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I have a 6'10" Fenwick MH Fast action that I use for my worms or general purpose plastics. Its ok, it held up great last summer. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Power fishing = 7'6" Dobyns 765 flip Finesse = 7'2" MH Cumara spinning 2 Quote
fishingkidPA Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 get a medium light 2 piece if you want a break down for the car, you may lose some sensitivity but you can also get a longer rod for casting distance etc. i used my medium light for bass and trout, does real good for both species cause i think you can throw 1/16 oz. to 3/8 oz. lures. Super User deep Posted April 19, 2011 Super User Posted April 19, 2011 My only plastics/ T-rig/ (finesse) jig set-up is a Powell Max 7'3" spinning, medium/ XF with Samurai. Can't tell you how much I love it. Quote
Fat-G Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Cumara Yerp, Cumaras are real good rods. Put a spool of 50# braid on it and it's a whole new rod. Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted April 19, 2011 Super User Posted April 19, 2011 I like a 6'-6" med. spinning rig w/ a fast tip for fishing t-rigs. For C-rigs I go for a 6'-6" heavy with a baitcaster. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted April 19, 2011 Super User Posted April 19, 2011 My UL rods are long, but I'm using them for big fish on light line. 7' would be a nice length for a UL spinning rig. 5'-6" just seems way to short. For general spinning rod, a 7' MH/F can't be beat. Topwater plugs, I like a shorter rod, 6' to 6'-6", and XF action. I like the fast recovery from twitches. Quote
