I bought a 7 tray tackle box from a yard sale a few weekends ago. I decided to start filling it up with Crankbaits.Im not even near done with all the cranks I have and im up to the count of 40.

So anyone else been told they have alot of tackle, and not realized just how much it until you started sorting it out?

I never had any idea I had so much. I even found a Terminator Spinnerbait new in the package the other day when I cleaned out my truck. Now where did that come from? I dont remember ever buying that!! Is the Bait monkey planting tackle now?

I'm always finding lures in my car I forgot I had. I keep all my gear in the trunk and just grab the boxes I want for each spot so I have a rolling tackle depot always finding long lost baits still in the bag w recipe

I've got big tupperware bins full of baits still in the package because they were on sale or being discontinued and I wanted to makes sure I had some extras or baits that just worked well and I wanted to make sure I have extra in case of emergency. I've got 3700 boxes stacked in the garage with enough baits to start a tackleshop and those are the baits that don't make the day to day cut. I started to go through some of it this winter but it was way more of a task than I ever dreamed  . I promise there are guys on here way worst than that (I've seen some of the pictures on here so nobody try to deny it). :D

I finally "culled" my tackle last fall and sold off a bunch of stuff at a garage sale. I still have a full load in the boat. I could probably get by with a couple of 3700's, but I'm too stubborn to go that far ;)

I did the same as jdw174 and culled some "overflow" last year. I was unable to fish a lot in '09 and had forgotten about the stock I bought the winter prior to the season. So I culled all last season until one day when I found myself coming back from work early and said, "what the heck, I'll kill some time and bank fish b4 I go home." On my way I noticed my tackle box was not in my truck and I'm almost at the pond. I'm really a little PO'd at this point b/c I always carry a care packeage with me for such occasions. I dug thru my truck and found a Spit-N-Image that had to have been there for the 10yrs I've owned it along with a bunch of stuff that is, to be honest, would be considered outdated...worked for me...ROFL

I am not quite there yet, but I am getting close! I have a Plano box completely full of crankbaits and now I am turning into a soft plastic fisherman, ugh! Another Plano box is on the horizon I guess.

notice what? That if you're into fishing and have any kind of an income over time you're going to accumulate some fishing tackle?

Almost everyone collects something - that's part of what makes us human. Tools or toys or minature figurines - everyone collects something.

I prefer to recognize my addiction for what it is - an addiction. I'm addicted to collecting fishing tackle and I am down with that. It is secondary to, but connected to my addiction to fishing.

I understand that it is a fairly benign addiction. I tell myself that should I have a cocaine addiction, all I'd have to show for it at the end of the day would be a runny nose. I don't try to think about it any more than that.

I just can't believe how much stuff I have aaccumulated. Between scoring big on the clearance sales at Walmart where the stuff is marked down almost 80% on particular items.Personally when an item like a Rapala DT is marked down from $8 to let's say $1.00. I can't help but purchase every last one they have.Even if I walk out of there with 10 or 15 of the same bait, how can a person pass up a deal like that? Is that so wrong?

Then there's Ebay.A lot of times I find "Lots" where people are listing 5 good brand name cranks for $.99 or a "lot" of 4 War Eagle SB's for $1.00. Those the fish these SB's know how much they retail for each,so this would be a bargain.

So those 2 scenerios are how I have come to accumulate so much tackle.

My wife asks me why I have so much if I can realistically only use one bait at a time.

My answer? "No one bait will catch all the fish all the time." In reality in fishing the situation dictates what you use at any given time, and to be ready for that ever changing situation, you gotta have a wide array of equipment to include lures and baits.

Me and the wife go into it this am about my tackle cuz I was putting new additions in there boxs. She says I have to much and when them big sales are on I usually only get 1 pack or one lure cuz she goes everywhere with me and is the boss. I like to buy multiples of every lure incase I loose one I got more to back them up she doesn't understand that. But as for everyone collecting something she doesn't she doesn't collect anything and has no hobbys other then giving me a hard time lol. But I am going to gander today to stock up on more lol

My tackle box is my boat. my garage, my shop, and several real tackleboxes. I could stock a bait shop. I am starting to think my old friend was right when he said we are all tackle collectors.

Last time my buddies were over they commented on my collection... Its pretty obscene. I'm setting up my garage like a bait shop so I can just grab for whatever body of water I'm going to.

I don't have an excessive amount of stuff, probably about thirty bags of Rage Tails, 50+ bags of other stuff. I really cut down alot this winter. I have mostly jigs and plastics. Those are my two favorite and most productive ways to fish.

However, for a 17 year old, my rods and reels aren't too shabby.

I haven't held a full-time job in over two years, so I have a lot of time during the week to hit the clearance sections of my local tackle shops and mass merchants. If i find a good deal, I stock up. Some of it I use, some I hold for a while and resell.

spread out all my bags of plastics on the basement floor and was shocked at how much I had. So I put them in piles by type. By far the craws were the biggest pile then worms from 4" to 10" were a close second. Next grubs, creacher baits, tubes, frogs and then gobys. I then put each type into gallon zip lock bags. It was at that moment I noticed my wife standing there. She didn't say a word she just turned and walked away. Damm,I hope a intervention isn't in my near future! I think I'll sort out my hard baits when she's not home. lol

To be honest, I used to have a lot of tackle, as in variety. But after losing baits, getting robbed(yes. my boat was CLEANED OUT), I have very few baits. I have 4 falcon thin stows. I have a good bit of plastic. I do keep a lot of spares, however. I could fit everything I own into a duffle.

I'd sleep In here If It were big enough. As for how much tackle? In the end It really doesn't matter to me as It's my passion.
