I can get a Curado NIB for $120, and Chronarch D7's for $220.

Is it $100 better than the Curado? Smoother, better at casting?

I didn't think so when I tried one... If I lived near saltwater or had more of a chance to fish it I might feel differently.

EDIT

A touch smoother and a better casting reel but not $100 better for me at the time.

If there was some feature set you needed that was on this one and not Curado I could see the extra dough.

What can you get the Core for? :D

~$250. I might still a Chronarch just to see if I like it.

I might put one on my Champion 735c with braid for pitching jigs.

It's worth every penny to me. I love my Chronarchs. They're much more adept with lighter lines and light baits. I regularly toss the 3/16 ounce shallow shad raps on a Chronarch set up. I can't do it as efficiently with a Curado, all other things being equal.

From the new series, yes it will be a lot smooither than the Curado will feel more refined, will cast a little better but it won´t hold much line, the line capacity doesn´t matter much when you fish with 10 lbs test, but when you plan fishing with 14, 17, 20 lbs test line capacity means a lot, the heavier you go the less line it will hold, the line will coil more, the coils will be tighter and the way it flows from the spool will be affected, so then it is when line capacity is important, D7 won´t hold much heavier than 10 lbs line so it really depends waht you want it for, if you are going to fish with greater than 10-12 pounds then it may not be worth the extra 100 bucks, for 10-12 lbs, then it is worth the extra 100 bones. Chronarchs of any series are very fine reels, very nice reels. For $220 ( 70 dollars less of reatail ) for me is a no brainer.

Where do the Chronarch and Core spool bearings rank on the ABEC scale?

I'm curious how a Curado with ABEC 9 spool bearing upgrades would compare to a stock Chronarch, in terms of casting. I have one upgraded Curado and I'm thinking about upgrading the rest.

I were in your shoes I would get the Core for $250. I've got all three reels and to me the Core stands out. It's worth the extra $30 you will pay to get the Core in my opinion. I think all three reels are great though, and I've got several Curados in the rotation so to speak. I've got a Scorpion 1000xt that is really nice, and I picked it up on ebay for $200.

The $250 is a guess, it might be higher. I might get the Chronarch. It would look sweet on a Champion.

On a side note- Anyone used the Cumara 7'4 Heavy Jig Rod yet?

No, and it's killing me that I blew my rod budget on "other" things. I'm still going to find a way to sneak it in the rod locker.

I want one. Bad.

Problem is I already have a heavy jig rod! What else could we use it for? :D
