I have heard a lot of talk about Mend-it soft plastic glue so I bought some. This stuff works great I have saved a lot of baits and money. The one thing that concerns me is the strong chemical sent that it has. What do you all think, will that sent hurt my bite ratio? The reason I ask is because I have not landed a decent fish yet on a bait that has been repaired with Mend-it. I will try putting on some extra Mega-Strike on the repaired bait next time out and see if that helps. Thanks everyone.

Megastrike might help. It can't hurt.

Another alternative is a solder iron. I picked up a battery powered one for $9 at a Radio Shack. It works great on soft plastics, but it's a piece of junk for soldering. It has paid for itself already just from repairing slightly torn Senkos alone.

I think Mend-it is a good product. I have repaired countless baits with it. I repair my baits when I get home and let them out-gas before I use them. Mega Strike is a good product as well.

PVC pipe cement does the EXACT same thing as Mend It. Just thought you'd like to know.

Letting repaired baits sit outside to get rid of the 'chemical' smell is a good idea

I have extended the life of hundreds of baits with mend it and have not noticed fixed baits smelling bad after they've dried, nor have I noticed any drop off in a mended bait working. I rarely use the mended bait the same day, usually if I have a ripped up or tired looking bait, I put it in my pocket and fix it that night, and then use it again on my next trip. Usually that's several days later so maybe if there is a residue, it has dissapated by then.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think you guys nailed the problem, I always mend the baits right on the spot and throw them right back out. I feel pretty dumb for not thinking about just repairing them later and letting them sit. Problem solved. Thanks guys.

I've pretty much figured out the same thing. There was a post here a while back stating that Mend-it was nothing more than PVC cement with some acetone added. One of these days, I'm going to go out into the garage and mix some together to see what happens. Regular PVC glue isn't quite as easy to apply as the thinner Mend-it, but it works just as good, if not better.

WRONG!!!!!!!

I know because I invented Mend-it. Then I sold it. PVC cement is NOT the same thing and its NOT nearly just as effective. Take two baits and glue them together with pvc glue and see what happens. They will "stick" together but the bond is weak. If you pull on them, they will seperate at the seam. Mend-it will not seperate. If you pull hard enough to rip the baits apart it will tear as if it was never repaired before, like it was new

Another test. Take a worm and put some pvc glue on it. Let it cure. Now see if you can peal it off. You most likley can. You absolutley can not peal the Mend-it off. It is a different chemical. Again I know this for a fact because I know what I used to make Mend-it.

Go ahead and thin the pvc glue with accetone and report back on how good it works. I know the answer. Believe me I tried many chemicals and combinations until I found the right formula. BTW PVC glue is not an ingredient in Mend-it. Smells similar but not the same.

Hard to argue with that one. lol

I'll take your word for it, Matt. :D

Seriously dont take my word for it because I am obviously bias. But if you have some PVC glue and accitone laying around give it a try. You will see what I am talking about. I will say its not worth buying those just to experiment though.

Funny thing is if I knew nothing about this subject, the first thing I would do is run out and try and prove me wrong :D so you wort hurt my feelings if you go experimenting !! :D
