dulouz Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I just got a new reel for my favorite spinning rod. The old reel isn't bad and I intend to still use it, but I don't like the actions of my other spinning rods and was thinking about getting another one. It doesn't have to be expensive, and should be something I could find at Dicks, Gander Mtn, or Wal Mart. Any brands/models you guys could think would be good for less than $50? Quote

dulouz Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Save a few more dollars and get a shimano clarus great rod for the money! I agree with you, the clarus is an awesome rod. My favorite BC is a clarus. But I am just looking for something as a backup, something to leave in the car for spontaneous trips. Quote

mark nowak Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Shimano convergence rods are pretty decent, I picked 2 of them up for $39 apiece and on top of that they have a $10 dollar mail in rebate from shimano right now. So for $29 you can't beat the price and quality. Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 The Tec Spec rods from Dick's aren't bad. Regular price is around $60 I believe but there are so many coupons floating around that you will have no problem picking one up for under $50 Quote

bass or bass ? Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Berkley Cherrywood. Wal-Mart carries them. I have two, a medium action 7', and a light action 6'. Quote
dulouz Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 I was getting gas yesterday and the station has a really nice outdoor store and I picked up a Shimano Sojourn for $25. It is a new model I think, but it looked like a good rod. I got the Medium/fast 6'6" in a 2 piece. I have tried several other cheap rods that said "medium" but they seemed too whippy at the tip. This one wasn't. I figure for $25 I can't go wrong for something that will live in the harsh environment of my car! Quote
hookingem Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Yep decent for for the money. We sell lots of them at our store to those not looking to break the bank. Enjoy hope it works out well for you. Quote
BusBassin Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Berkley has 3 rods that are pretty good at that price. The cherrywood, Amp, and Lightning Rod. All are at or under $50 Also check craiglist for better quality used rods at great prices. I have picked up rods that are $100-$150 for as low as $35-$50. But just make sure you check them out to be sure that are in working condition. Quote
johnD. Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Calico Jack rods made by Redbone are excellent rods for the $$. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 15, 2011 Super User Posted April 15, 2011 Should you need a decent cheap spinning rod, just go to WalMart.. That's what they specialize in. Just pick one that feels right. Should you fish with it a few times and find it wanting, just go get a different one. They're cheap. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 15, 2011 Super User Posted April 15, 2011 Calico Jack rods made by Redbone are excellent rods for the $$. Funny you should mention this, I bought one a few months ago strictly for bass fishing and I like it as much as my redbones, paid $54 at Dicks, 7'med 8/17. My original purchase was an all star im10 on sale, hated it and returned, is advertised an in shore redfish rod, gimme a break on that one, no backbone. Quote

I picked one up @ the Naval base in Pensacola, last time I was there with my Uncle ,$45 out the door. Quote
