Troutin' Homicidal Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I love fishing red fin minnows for trout. I've had plenty of luck over the years and I love kicking for them. But my dad's getting older and it's tougher for him to kick like we used to. I tried raising them before but they ate each other. Anyone have any luck raising red fins? I did a search online and no one seems to know what the hell Im talking about. I know when I lived in Lycoming County I couldnt find them to save my life, but now I'm back in York County I can find them anywhere. Thanks for the help. Quote
boystcroix Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Redfins can be caught in a number of small streams throughout Lycoming co. They are pretty common bait for trout fishermen. Kicking the stream with a net is probably the best way but they can be caught in minnow traps. I've never tried raising them but I do know keeping minnows can be tricky. Shiners are tough to keep. By the way try googling dace minnow. Quote
zenyoungkoh Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Get those >10 cent rosy red minnows from petsmart or any pet store and raise them. They are more used to captive life than wild minnow so they are easily kept and bred. Quote
