Jim McC Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I'm looking to replace a reel or 2, and am looking for suggestions under $40. Gander Mtn. has the Mitchell 300XE on sale for $39. They also have their Guide series for $29. Are these any good? Thanks. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 14, 2011 Super User Posted April 14, 2011 You may want to try posting this in the Rods, Reels, & Line Subforum. I'd be willing to bet some of the people that frequent that part of the site can get you the right info. Quote

dulouz Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I just bought a Daiwa Exceler for $39.99 (retails for $79)at Gander Mtn. It's last year model, so it still comes with a spare spool. Quote
mark nowak Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Shimano Sedona is not a bad reel, I believe you can find them on sale around that price. Quote
Super User CWB Posted April 14, 2011 Super User Posted April 14, 2011 For a little more this would be a good bet. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Pro-Qualifier-Spinning-Reels/product/10205014/-1653242 Or drop down to the Extreme. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 i have two fairly new spinning reels around the $40 range, both have worked excellent for me thus far... one is a the abu garcia cardinal 104, the other is the pfleuger trion gx-7... Quote
Jim McC Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks guys. With the Mitchell 300XE and the Pflueger Trion GX7 both at $39, which is the better reel? These are online prices, I don't know if the store will honor them yet. Quote
Stasher1 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks guys. With the Mitchell 300XE and the Pflueger Trion GX7 both at $39, which is the better reel? These are online prices, I don't know if the store will honor them yet. Having owned both, I'd go with the Trion and never look back. It's much, much smoother, and comes with a spare aluminum spool. Go to your local GM and handle both reels side by side. The difference(s) between the two will be obvious. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 15, 2011 Super User Posted April 15, 2011 i use 100 series garcias and i have used other companies reels same price range and by far the garcia is the best Quote
7mm-08 Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 I think an Abu Cardinal reel would do the trick. I haven't used the Trion specifically but I love my Pflueger President and Supremes. Quote
I.rar Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 check ffo tackle. They sometimes have good deals. Quote
Jim McC Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 Trion or Okuma Avenger I was just going to ask about the Okuma Avenger. I saw the AV40 at a local sports store today, and it seemed pretty nice. How do you guys think it compares to the Pfluger Trion GX7? They're the same price. Thanks. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted April 15, 2011 Super User Posted April 15, 2011 I've never owned an Okuma, but my first Pflueger (and still in use) was a Trion. It's been no trouble to me at all. Quote
