We were throwing the panther martin spin flys the one with the yellow blade with the brown spots with a shot of scent. It was just about dusk and i guess the catfish were comming up the ledge/drop off towards the shore line and the shallows. we just didn't catch one we could of filled a bushel with them. Catfish on inline spinners you gotta love it. Ever catch catfish with lures before? Bill

I've caught them on inline spinners before. Last year I had a five pound cat crush a lipless crankbait. I was told it's a myth that they feed by smell only and they will pursue food.

I was fishing a Roostertail on a 5'6" light-power spinning rod with 6lb test line and got bit by a 33" channel cat. It took 17 minutes to land it. At the time, I was carrying a scale that went only to 8lbs so I don't know the weight - 16 to 20 pounds perhaps. Only have a very poor quality cell phone photo of this catch. It was a great fish fight though!

Flatheads are strictly predators and large channels prefer live food, so both are possible artificial bait takers. I caught a 25 pound flathead 4 years ago while bass fishing on a medium action Quantum Express rod with a Quantum Mantra reel and 12 pound test line. Took @ 20 minutes to boat it.

Yeah I've caught a few channel cats on Roostertails over the years. I've had friends catch some nice flatheads on soft plastics as well.

I've caught over 10 big blues on crank baits the biggest being about 35lbs. Several yellow (flatheads) cats on the same with the biggest probably hitting 13-15lbs. This usually happens during a tournament, they give the kind of bite that makes your heart drop lol I've also caught smaller cats on, 10oz bucktail flies fishing for striper, small crappie flies, little georges, and a topwater pop r (but this was in a pond)

6# test Goose52! WTG! Your heart must have been pounding by the time you landed that. You were probably thinking it was a huge bass...LOL

My heart was pounding for sure...but I was sure it was a cat from the start. I was fishing from the bank and saw what I thought was a log in the water...then I saw it move and saw it was a cat cruising along the bank. I cast that Roostertail ahead of the direction he was going then twitched it back..................and BAM!

Now, a month after the cat, I was also fishing a Roostertail and got a BIG bite and didn't know what it was for a while...turned out to be a 7.75 LMB... :D
