I use the same program and have the same problem. It started when avast updated. It wont load tackletour forums or *** at all.

On this site I believe it has to do with the facebook plugin. Not sure about the others.

I am sure an update from avast will fix these false positives.

Yeah, I have that problem also. I have turned off web shield for now and will only visit sites I trust until the problem is fixed.

Avast is notorious for generating false positives and acting up like this. I tried it once and got sick of it crying wolf all the time. I deleted it and never went back.

Dump it and get Trend Micro PC-cillan or Kaspersky.

my tower is blasted.

HTML:IFrame infection

Pretty sure it was the same thing I was getting. Are you trying to upgrade the program or the virus definitions? I finally got it to update the program and that cleared up my issues. Keep trying!!

i can't update Avast either...

Try updating the program. It worked for me after multiple failed attempts.

It is frustrating when things like this happen. I was just glad to find out I wasnt the only one having issues.

It's not the first time Avast had a false positive here. Unfortunately the last time it happened, Avast wasn't so open about it, and a few members here were convinced the site had an issue, even though no other anti-virus software had any issues with the site (just like this time).

Just glad they're being forthright this time around.

But again, it's best to just bite the bullet and pay a few bucks for something more reliable, rather than deal with issues like this on a regular basis.

The problem with programs like Norton and Mcaffee is they are resource hogs and normally do more harm than good. I cant count how many times I have had to remove the antivirus software that a customer bought and installed. It got to the point when they would bring their computers in id ask if they just installed norton. 95% of the time they had and it was the problem. It was doing more harm than the virus they had.

I have had this happen twice in the 5+ years I have been using avast.

Paying for something doesnt always mean its better.

What about detection rates? Everything I've read indicates the free programs have lower detection rates.

I'm not a big fan of McAfee or Norton either. That's why I use Trend Micro. Been using it for 10 years without a single false positive.

Glenn, have you had any experience with Webroot? Every once in a while I'll get an authentication error here, or on Facebook. I almost want to say that it's acting more like a hard disk error though.

I haven't had any problems with avast on my part. Then again I'm on the paid version. Not the free version.

No, I have not tried Webroot. Sorry.

I've used Webroot for 5 years give or take on all my computers and have never had a problem. Also, their customer service (which is real people) is second to none.
