There really isn't one. There's nothing else that really comes close.

Seagaur Shinsei is supposed to be a competitor.

Have not used it though, or have seen anybody use it.

Dont know if it's any cheaper though.

You mean Pline Shinsei, and it's definitely not a competitor to Tatsu. It's a leader material, not a mainline.

Not trying to start a war or anything but really? I love ultra soft especially at the price but its simply not as good as Tatsu.

Did I mention I have several spools of Yo-Zuri for a ton of different applications. Its a great line but Tatsu is the best, IMO of course.

When I first mentioned that silly name "Tatsu",

it went over like a lead balloon (what a difference a year makes)

Tatsu is not a hybrid line it's two fluoro resins.

It has a hard resin core for maximal tensile strength,

and a softer resin exterior for improved knot strength.

Today, newer technology is already in the works,

but for now Seaguar Tatsu is still the cream-of-the-crop .

It's up there, but it doesn't have some of the same qualities that Tatsu does. One of my partners has it on a Core and a CH50MG and it does some things really well, but lacks the abrasion resistance of Tatsu. I guess, apples to apples, it would be the closest to Tatsu that I've had my hands on.

The line I mentioned wasn't the be all and end all of the Kureha lines, just one of many. Japanese companies are notorious for not exporting the cream of the crop. I can assure you, Tatsu is not the top of their performance totem pole.

Tatsu 8lb on a Stradic Ci4 and a Cumara 6'8 Medium x-fast is my go to drop shot rig. It is amazing. Tatsu is the cream of the crop for me.

I understand that, hence my statement of being the best I have been able to get my hands on. Kureha GM, SM, Multi are all lines that blow everything else out of the water. The problem is their availability. You just can't get them.

Can't say, have only seen pics.I don't even use fluorocarbon line.All though I do keep some fluorocarbon leader (triple fish brand) in my saltwater bag for rare occasions.

I've heard that premium lines like Tatsu have a longer life on your reel than mid-range fluorocarbon lines like Invizx, Abrazx, or Trilene 100%.

Any truth to this, or do you swap it out just as often?

I have two reels spooled with the first spool of Tatsu I bought last year in March (I think it was March) and it still performs like I put it on there a month ago. This is in 15lb. By comparison, I have a couple reels spooled with Abrazx 25 that I spooled last fall, and I couldn't stand it anymore and respooled recently. Definitely doesn't have the memory issues that many lines do. Don't get me wrong, it's got memory, but not like a coil-spring.

I'm going into my 3rd season with Sunline Shooter Metan Invisible FC AND Toray Finesse braid AND Varivas Finesse braid. I trim it back when necessary. I also use backing and will respool the line onto another reel to use the unused end.

I did try some sunline sniper in #20. while it does lay pretty darn straight, it does not pitch, flip or cast as well as tatsu. the sniper wants to push off of the spool. and when bottom contact fishing, any amount of slack in the line and the line wants to un coil like a spring off of the spool. tatsu does not do this. I guess there is no substitute. I hate buying it but I absolutely love fishing it. for those of you who have not tried it, don't unless you want to continue buying. It is simply that great of a product

Sounds good, guys. Thanks for the replies. I usually spool up twice a year with the fluoro lines that I'm accustomed to using. If these premium lines that cost twice as much last twice as long or longer, it sounds like premium is the way to go. At the very least, they're worth a shot. If you can fish with them after a 6 month offseason layoff, that's a HUGE plus for me. So far, I've yet to find a line that can do that, except braid of course.

• Another question, do the premium lines remain clear for a long time or do they get that milky, chalky hue after a few months like a lot of lines do?
