...as demonstrated by my five year old son.

I bought this rod/reel for him today at Bass Pro Shops. The old "Spiderman" rig just wasn't cutting it for him anymore. He had a fine day...catching eight bass. Two were in the 2-2.5lb range. All were caught on some BPS "Stikos" that he picked out himself.

Mike,

He really put that rod to good use, swore I just saw you at BPS with the kids running around. Love the part where you mention the alligator swimming right at you and your son goes into high alert.

Awesome video, Mike. There's nothing better than getting the kids out catching fish. I bought both of my daughters their first decent rod and reel not long ago at BPS. Like your son, they outgrew the old stuff. Those Princess rods just weren't doing the job for them.

Yeah, Robert. Good seeing you at BPS, today.

My kids love going to BPS. My son already has been stricken by the bait monkey a little bit. I always let him pick out a pack of "bugs" (i.e. soft plastics) at BPS. I get home today and notice I've got FOUR extra packs of soft plastics. He stashed a couple extras in the basket (I did pay for them!). I can't get too mad at him though. I've been known to sneak a few extra baits past the boss myself... B)

Yeah, he did pretty good for his first time out with a spinning rod. This rod is about a foot longer than the ol "Spiderman" rig...pretty soon he'll be asking for a Dobyns, I'm sure.

The second bass he hooked today was a nice 2.5lb chunk...I look and the rod is pointed straight down at the water and drag is pulling out. I'm telling him to lift the rod and he says..."I can't!" Wish I had got that one on video, but I had to provide a good deal of assistance with that fish.

Here's his "big" one today...

Sounds like another bassin fanatic, Mike. Soon he'll be spending the allowance at the tackle store with his old man. Great stuff.

The part where he really gives it a good pull and gets up on his toes made me lol. Good job getting him started young!

Thanks guys. I'm gonna try and go back out there tonight and see if I can get a 3-4lber on camera. This spot is loaded with 2-4lbers.

A couple more videos of my five year old son, Luke (aka "Little Ike") catching bass on senkos.

Thanks guys. I call him Little Ike...he's very animated when he gets a fish, has a competitive nature about him and he loves to fish. On this trip he caught about eight fish before I even picked up a rod. After awhile I picked up my jig rod and promptly hung a fat, six-pounder. He was PO'd...didn't talk to me for about a half hour. LOL. I wasn't a great Dad for awhile there... :)

Very nice videos!

I noticed in the first video, when you mentioned the word "alligator"

Luke back-pedaled slightly from the shoreline (smart boy) :)
