LC Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Has anyone heard of this rig. How is it tied and how is it fished? I've only heard of it regarding stripers! Any help is appreciated! Quote
LC Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 google it I did, the technique didn't come up for me. Can you give me the URL since you located something I was unable to find? Quote

joshholmes Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 its an old secret for fishing for stripers in arizona. thats why you couldn't find it Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 11, 2011 Super User Posted April 11, 2011 google it Why bother having Bassresource if we can google everything? This is a fishing forum, not somewhere to go to hear the words "google it" 4 Quote
joshholmes Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 sorry force of habit thats why i answered it after because i didnt think that was enough to say Quote
LC Posted April 11, 2011 Author Posted April 11, 2011 its a 2 ounce spoon with an anchovie nose hooked 2 feet above the bait That's not making sense to me. Is it a spoon tied 2 feet up the line with a weight at the terminal end. Kind of like a drop shot? Or is it a hook tied like a drop shot with a spoon at the end? Do you have a pic of one? Quote
joshholmes Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 its a hook tied like a dropshot with some sort of bait on it with a 2 ounce spoon 2 feet below the bait Quote
LC Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 its a hook tied like a dropshot with some sort of bait on it with a 2 ounce spoon 2 feet below the bait I just noticed your age on your posts, which might explain some things. I was able to glean all of the info you had from the net as well. It truly doesn't answer the question. Anyone else care to venture an educated guess to this question? Quote
joshholmes Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 so you think i don't know because im younger than most of the people on this site? or are you reffering to how long ive been on the site? as for the rig ive told you what i found out so i cant answer anymore Quote
AndyPlaysDrums Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I think he's referring to the fact that your answers came off as very short and very sarcastic, which isn't the norm for this site. While that may not have been the intent, and I don't think it was, an answer like "Google it", could come from my grandmother, and is not at all helpful. This site is here for people of a like interest to help others and share in this interest. I can Google "Carolina Rig" and find out how to rig one, but I would come here and ask because I trust the opinions on here and can have a back and forth Q&A about it. As far as your signature goes, it's hard to disagree that it comes off as a bit cocky, but to each their own on that, that's why we're allowed to have whatever signature we want. Tight lines, man! AndyPlaysDrums Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 and I'll add to this. I have no idea what a bougan rig is. I clicked on this link because I thought I might learn something new. Haha, come to think of it, me too! Quote
LC Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 Josh, First let me apologize for my outburst. I didn't mean to offend you in any way. I've lurked on this site for some time, and found it to be quite informative and very polite, therefore I was a bit surprised by your answer. I first heard of this rig from an Arizona fishing report site in the Arizona Republic, as follows, http://www.azcentral...fishreport.html What you posted on this forum sounded like an exact regurgitation of this description which is what I found in the first place. I live 15 minutes from Lake Pleasant ( the lake in question in the report), so naturally I wanted to learn all I could about this rig. Needless to say I was quite frustrated when I saw google it! Trust me I already had Googled it and found nothing. I also posed the question on a very informative and sometimes not so polite forum in Arizona. If these guys don't know, I knew it was going to be a tough question. Again, I apologize, I didn't mean to get into a hissing match with you. I think it's great that you have this hobby (fishing), it's healthy and fun and may keep you away from the temptations of your peers. Keep it up! Quote
LC Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 Found out what it is! 15-30 pound braid on a spinning reel with a 10 pound flourocarbon leader tied on to a swivel. Use two hooks one 2 & 1/2 feet above the weight and one 6" above the weight, tied on with a palomar knot. Then put a drop shot weight on the end. Can be casted out or just hung over the side of the boat! I heard the name was made up as kind of a joke at a local tackle shop. Anyway thought I would let you guys know if anyone was still interested. Quote

River Rat316 Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 As with just about everything that would be illegal in Minnesota Quote
LC Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 As with just about everything that would be illegal in Minnesota Yeah, it's legal in Arizona, but one hook would work which is simply a dropshot rig! Quote
