brushhoggin Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I picked a couple packs of these up at academy today for 2.88 a pack. I've always fished zoom 8 inchers but Im thinkin that tail will whip around a little more in that dirty water I fish. Any unbiased opinions out there? Also what's the best way to rig one of those trailor hooks on a lizard? Seen em before attached to the main hook with line running through the plastic, or along the side of it or something. Thanks in advance Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 10, 2011 Super User Posted April 10, 2011 I can tell you right now, that you don't have to worry about any crazy trailer hook rigging with a Lizard. Just rig it on a 3/0-4/0 EWG hook, and either use a slip sinker or not, depending on depth, wind, etc. My two favorite ways to use a Rage Lizard, are weightless outside weedlines, or on a Carolina rig. The bait has more action than other lizards out there, so when it falls naturally, it's deadly. I also use it during the spawn with a 3/16th oz jig head in spawning areas. 1 Quote
brushhoggin Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 I was actually curious about the trailer rigging for the 8" zooms I use. I get a lot of bites where they just grab it by the tail and run off before they actually gulp it down. I wanna set the hook soon and avoid throat hooks Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 10, 2011 Super User Posted April 10, 2011 I've used both, the ragetail lizzie, hands down has much better action. I also rig mine with a 3/0ewg hook, no trailers needed.. Quote

You might get bet bites rather than short strikes. It might encourage them more to inhale it. Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I like using the rage lizard on a light weight c-rig. If you're getting short strikes I would add some JJ's or megastrike to seal the deal. The lizard is a great flipping/pitching bait as well. I've caught some nice fish pitching it into laydowns and brush t-rigged with a 3/8oz flippin weight. Quote
brushhoggin Posted April 11, 2011 Author Posted April 11, 2011 i still catch a majority of the fish that hit it, but i loose a bunch too cause their grabbing the tail and running before i set the hook. if i think they've only grabbed the tail and let em take it a while before i set the hook, i end up throat hooking them. i want a weedless trailer hook for lizards Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Those are typically dinks that take the tail of it. I'm in the market for some lizards too and have been contemplating what brand to buy. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 11, 2011 Super User Posted April 11, 2011 This will be the first year I've used the Rage Lizard. I've always used Yamamoto, or Yum. I have caught a couple fish on the Rage this year already, though I wouldn't even have expected it. I was more playing the the C Rig to see what I needed to do to weight it, and how the Lizard moved. When I started getting hit, but not hooking up, I dipped the tail, and that didn't do it. I coloerd the feet, too, and they shredded the thing on the next five casts. Caught three males around 15" and 2 females one being about 4.5. I'm really liking the durability of the bait. This one is barely showing anything in terms of being damaged. Quote

I like the Zoom lizards, they have worked for me. Green pumpkin with red flake has been the best. I want to try the Yum sallemander, heard they are great. Quote
