For all you folks who think you're cute flying by us kayak anglers in your bass rockets, well, we're not going to take it anymore. (click the thumbnail)

By far the best and coolest photo editing I have seen in a while. On a serious note; what is the best way to pass a kayak? If you stay up on plane and go as fast as is safe and practical you leave hardly any wake. If you come off plane, you send a wake during the process and a little wake during the idle portion. When I am sitting still I prefer that bass boats don't even trim in any and just get it over with. I really want to know how kayakers feel.

The best way to pass a small boat is to idle by it, just as you would in a "NO WAKE ZONE", or give it a wide berth and maintain speed. The further your wake travels, the more it will flatten out. A storm hundreds of miles out to sea can create heavy surf (breakers) conditions. Get out beyond the breakers zone and you have gentle, rolling swells.

I actually meant this thread to be a little poke at some humor, but since you brought it up, I usually stay away from water where the big boys run. However, there are a couple lakes where I'll have to cross main channels to get to my favorite holes and I appreciate the boaters who give me a wide pass. Contacting a big wake really isn't a problem as you can simple ride over the wave. My biggest fear is the boater who might not see me. As kayak fishing gains popularity, I'm thinking this will become a serious problem. I have a bright, red flag and an air horn, but these things ride so low in the water, I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before we read about a tragedy between a motor boat and a kayak. (knocking on wood)

There have been a few reports of boats hitting kayakers, I believe there was one incident earlier this year which resulted in one man dying.

Anywhere that there could be a powerboat zooming along I try and put up my "Visipole" great for night fishing as well as making yourself seen.

Unfortunately sometimes you can do all you can and you still will never be seen by someone who's not looking. It's just one of those inherent dangers of kayaking

I have a small jon boat and a gheenoe and I HATE IT WHEN BASS BOAT COMES OFF PLANE to IDLE BY, would rather have them go by WOT or at least stay on plane, why because the wake is BIGGER when IDLING! Do onto others as you would like them to do onto you!

Big boats with a huge displacement are entirely different though!
