zenyoungkoh Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Many members on the site recommend using a wacky rig to fish small bass. Th pond im fishing has a rocky bottom full of branches and plants. Is there a weedless wacky rig? Im probably wacky rigging a 5" shaky worm, do you think it'll catch bass thats about a foot long or longer? Quote
GTrombly Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 There is a couple different weedless wacky hooks on tackle warehouse. Check out Wayne P.'s avatar how he has it rigged. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 there are a few weedless wacky hooks to choose from. if you are limited in what you can find..just about any weedless hook will work ok. i recommend either 1/0 or 2/0 size max. wacky rigged 4" worms do not limit you to small fish. Quote
A-Rob Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 The nice thing about the wacky rig is it falls so slow that you can control it so it doesn't get buried into the structure. On top of that it falls so slow if you are asleep at the wheel it lays down on the structure without it burying itself in there to bad. And on top of that, you can get hooks with a weed guard specifically for wacky rigging. Once in a while I'm sure you could get it stuck if you tried tho haha. I think a largemouth bass will definitely hit a 4-5" finesse worm. Quote
lou304 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 i've been using these for several years now with good success. http://www.cabelas.com/fishing-hooks-mustad-w37754r-ultra-point-8482-weedless-wacky-worm-hooks-1.shtml Quote
AndyPlaysDrums Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I'm really digging the looks of the new Owner Wacky Jighead. Quote
Blues19 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Have you ever looked into the Kicker Fish Bait Wackey Worm? That bait looks very goofy but its very weedless, will work with any regular worm hook and it does catch fish. I know people who think it looks dumb so they have not tried it, but for me its been a proven fish catcher. Has a slow fall and works well. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 9, 2011 Super User Posted April 9, 2011 I'm in love with these hooks for wacky rigs and drop shot now. They're awesome. Gamakatsu Wicked Wacky hook. My only dislike is that they're in 3packs at most retailers. I hate buying hooks in qty less than 10. They're a little pricey, too, but worth every penny to me. Quote

WanderLust Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 seconded. these hooks are expensive, but awesome. I have few packs of these left. I want to try the Moto Wacky hooks with the 50LB mono weed guard. Quote

The weed blocker is so flimsy, and it always gets caught in my soft plastics after I set the hook. I greatly prefer the wicked hooks, as well as the owner weedless wacky hooks. Quote

Agree they can get tangled in the plastic but I don't think Ive missed a fish with these yet. I tinker with the weedguard so it sits on the hook just ahead of the barb, a little further back than in the picture. I use it in weeds, have dragged it over mooring lines and it's fine. It does look flimsy but it does a pretty good job. The wickeds are great too. Just cost more. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 10, 2011 Super User Posted April 10, 2011 Check out the Falcon K-Wacky hooks. They come in two different sizes, 3/0 & 6/0. You can get them weighted or not. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 12, 2011 Super User Posted April 12, 2011 I use a weedless wacky finesse or Trick worm rigged like my avatar and it will produce bass from 6" to double digit size in any type of cover. All the bass I have caught in excess of 9# have been with the finesse worm rigged that way. The hook I use is the Gamakatsu Octopus in 2/0 for the finesse worm and 3/0 for the Trick worm. I would not use a Kahle style hook as a hook-set type presentation-too many missed fish. It's the next thing to a circle hook. Quote
joshholmes Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 you dont need weedless hooks. turn the hook 90 degrees and reinsert it into the bait. the only problem is that it somewhat kills a little bit of action when you do that to a stickbait Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I just use the cheapo eagle claw weedless hook. They are easy to find at walmart, they are not expensive, and seem sharp and strong to me. Quote
