philsoreel Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I finally got up the nerve to try Toray's new Bawo Prem. Plus Hi-Grade fluorocarbon. I had to order it direct from Blackwater because I couldn't find it anywhere. Most of the people I talked to didn't realize there was a new product because the only difference(as far as packaging and name) between the original Premium Plus and the new one is the addition of the words "Hi Grade". You would think someone in the US marketing department would catch that. I've been fishing their 16# Solaroam Upgrade for about 6 months and like it so much that I've gone to it over braid for my jigs, t-rigs, and c-rigs. Haven't had to put the first drop of line conditioner on it but it's too stiff for spinning gear. The new stuff is for my shakeyhead rod...hoping I'll like it as much as I like Upgrade. Quote

I've heard very good things. Particularly in lighter line weights. I ordered a spool of 5 and 16 to give a shot. Quote

I've used a few different types of Toray directly from the Japanese websites and use the finesse braid. You should do well with it. Quote
philsoreel Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 I'm yet to find a FC in 8# that throws really well and meets my other demands on my Stradic CI4 2500. Sure Invizx throws great but I hate stretchy line. I'm fishing some really heavy hard cover and 6# is just too light. Next time I'll buy a 3000 size reel so this isn't an issue. BTW Stradic CI4 Owners-Conventional wisdom tells us to lay the line spool on the floor, face up or down depending on the direction the line comes off, right? Yet in the manual Shimano says to spool this reel like a baitcaster. Spooling up, I've had line twist on me using the baitcasting method. So, which should I do? I don't want to spool up $40 worth of line and twist it up. Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted April 7, 2011 Super User Posted April 7, 2011 I've used a few different types of Toray directly from the Japanese websites and use the finesse braid. You should do well with it. I like a couple of Toray lines. This one has me intrigued for a couple reasons. It's supposed to have excellent knot strength and abrasion resistance but handle much like the finesse. Two of the people I fish with regularly have said that it's better than Tatsu in terms of handling on a spinning rod. In terms of spooling the CI4, do it just like they say, and you'll be fine. Quote
philsoreel Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Even if it doesn't work out, I'll have plenty of leader material lol. I'll post my first impressions tomorrow night when I get back in. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted April 9, 2011 Super User Posted April 9, 2011 I've used it. Does handle very well, but has a lot of stretch, to the high side compared to most lines. Think that's the trade-off for the good handling. I've been using the Upgrade for jig work, etc. in the 16-20# range, and the Super finesse for the light weight stuff. Been VERY happy with both. -T9 Quote
detroit1 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 You got me at Premium Plus High Grade. What could be better? Quote
BassThumb Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 You got me at Premium Plus High Grade. What could be better? They're really setting the bar high with a name like Premium Plus High Grade. I'm thinking about trying a spool or two of premium fluorocarbon this season. I have this one in mind, also Seaguar Tatsu. Does anybody have experience with both of these lines, particularly on spinning tackle? Quote

It doesn't have the stretch that Toray does, and it's a little better in terms of handling. I'm happy I tried the Toray, but I'll stick with my Tatsu as a premium. Quote

I'm happy I tried the Toray, but I'll stick with my Tatsu as a premium. Every Seaguar line I've ever used had terrible stretch. I have not used Tatsu because I was worried it would be just like all the others. I've been fishing the new Toray Premium Plus Hi Grade every day for a week now on my shakeyhead rod and this is what I think about it...it's a Premium Plus High Grade fishing line. It's looking like it's going to be finding it's way onto a few more of my reels. Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted April 15, 2011 Super User Posted April 15, 2011 I had ordered the line from Tacklejapan late March. I hadn't spooled and used it when I originally posted. When I saw you post it reminded me that I had it so I tried it. Fished it for a couple days, and let you know what I thought of it at that point. Quote
philsoreel Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 Hmmmm....it seems a spool of Tatsu in my future is inevitable. I haven't had any stretchy hookset problems yet but it did feel a little on the mushy side when I tied on a heavier shakeyhead and went deep. This is getting aggravating. I LOVE Solaroam Upgrade 16# for jigs/t-rigs but I think it would be too stiff for a lightline spinning set-up. Awesome hooksets and sensitivity. Might just give 7# Shooter a try. It had the lowest amount of stretch of all the FC's in TT's FC Showdown. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted January 26, 2012 Super User Posted January 26, 2012 Any more comparision between this BAWO line and TATSU? Looking to go light-duty fluoro on a 50E & SupremeXT30 wanting-- #1 sensitiveity, #2 line management which is the better? Knot strength, overall strength? Abrasion doent matter, nothing but weeds in the lake I fish 90% of time. Looking at 6# but MAYBE 8# if manageability wont suffer but if 6# will be MUCH beter thats what I prefer. THANKS Quote
