Super User eyedabassman Posted April 8, 2011 Super User Posted April 8, 2011 I use NorthStar 1/4 and 5/16oz swim jigs in all white, sexy Shad and blue black herring. I like to use Kinami or Yamamoto 4 and 5 inch single tail grubs. I prefer to use blue pearl silver flake. I will also use Yamamoto swim senko in the same color. I have used twin tail Chompers grubs as well as other style crawdad style trailers, but I still prefer the single tail grub. I believe it just all comes down to personal preference and what you feel the most confident in. For me swim jigs have always been great producers. I have also found that throwing them like a jig and just letting them sit and then pop and reel and let it settle down also produces pretty effectively. I will fish them slowly over and through lily pads around timber, rocks etc... It doesn't matter to me I will throw them anywhere and anytime. SJ I also like the NorthStar swim jigs. As for trailers I like the NetBait SR. chunks. But you can use anything! I take a ribbon tail worm and cut the body down and use the tail, small swimbaits, lizards, grubs, baby brush hogs, and one that I found that is a killer is the paddle tail worm like a Netbait Thumber worm! ib_of_the_damned Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Trim the skirt to almost flush with the hook, take your favorite spinnerbait blade, size 3 or smaller depending on the jig, a ball bearing swivel, some trailer hook tubing and slip that over the split ring on the swivel. Now attach the spinner blade to the jig hook like a trailer hook on a spinnerbait and now you have a different look to the traditional swim jig trailers while adding action and flash. Please keep this amongst yourselves... Quote
AndyPlaysDrums Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I picked up some of the Silver Shad swim jigs from Northstar during the sale last week. I was looking for a similar colored trailer the other day when I found the new Havoc "Deuce" in Smoke Sparkle (I believe was the name of it). I threw it for a little while yesterday. Didn't catch anything on it (or anything else), but the sun was high and the water was clear, so I could see it coming back at me for a long time, and what a great looking presentation! Quote
Quillback Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I like the Kietech swing impact as a trailer, the tail has good action on a slow retrieve. But make sure you superglue them to the jig as they will pull off easily if you don't. Double Diamond is another good one. I like the craw trailers when the fish are aggressive and I want to use a faster retrieve. Quote
