Last year while fishing a local pond in the spring I caught several bass that had leeches in there mouth, big leeches. So I thought I would start off this spring with a similar pattern.I purchased Berkley Gulp's 5" Jumbo Leech in Black and black/olive.Matched with a 1/32 oz black bullet wt.and a small owner hook to match and owe man this has been deadly for me.The motion is real slow and life like but the only down fall is I have to use lighter line then I would like to in heavy cover.Even in colder water the slower motion seems to be to much for the bucket mouths to handle right now.I am excited for the rest of Spring because of this new set up for me.So what is your new go to bait for this spring?

I'm sticking with the old reliable tube. Nobody hardly uses them out here and that's fine by me. Let 'em throw Senkos....

while i haven't used it yet, i am sure the zoom swamp crawler on a shakey head will be killer.

i found one on the bank while fishing and i didn't know what it was but it was the wiggliest worm i've ever felt, so i did some searching online and found out what it was, and bought a bag.

I'm kinda diggin' the KVD Perfect Plastics finesse worm right now.

My favorite in cold water is a 3.5" wateremelon, smoke/red flake, or green pumpkin finesse tube rigged on a 1/16-1/4 oz light-wire jighead.

Been old schoolin' it this spring with an 1/8-oz. hair jig. Over 325 bass since ice out <30 days ago, and still working.

Haven't tried any new techniques. The ol' faithful jerbait and spinnerbait have been putting plenty of fish in the boat for me. Last summer I did become aquainted with the Gulp minnow though. Smallmouth and walleye fishing hasn't been the same for me since. B)

I picked up the YUM Big Show kit off of Lurenet for $7.99 a few weeks ago, so I'm excited to start doing some shaky head fishing. Probably some T-Rigged Baby Rage Craws, too. What do you all use for a hook for those?

I would go with a Tiny Paca craw on a Owner weighted 1/0 hook. Or 5 in. Grub or Beaver bait.

baby rage craw, bought them in february, just broke them out a couple days ago and they have been good to me so far, i t-rigged them on a 2/0 gamakatsu ewg, idont really think it needs to be an ewg though but thats what i got for now, im sure 1/0 would work fine as well and could be even better...but it has proven to be really versatile for me. ive caught fish letting it sit on the bottom with occasionally dragging it. ive caught fish on the fall of the cast, ive caught fish swimming them in the water column. and my favorite so far has been semi-burning them across the top of the water with an occasional pause to let it fall(and it falls really really slow), or actually getting hit while using it like a top water. im sure there is much more i can do with it, thats just what ive done in the last two days....

1. original 3.5 inch gitzit tube

2. zoom tiny fluke/ yum houdini shad

3. zoom trick worms

This year, I've been using a weightless, zoom magnum trick worm for spooky shallow water fish. So far, so good!
