Wammiee Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Opinions on the best overall SPINNING ROD thats under $125.00? Best overall SPINNING REEL thats under $100.00? Pflueger President(9 bearings) a possibility? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 6, 2011 Super User Posted April 6, 2011 Don't know what you will use them for but any rod & reel in that price range are decent. The best thing to do is go to a fishing store and try differant reels on rods until you find something that feels good to you. Reels-shimano , daiwa , Abu Garcia ,pflueger , quantum , are some that make quality reels. Rods-shimano , falcon , st. croix , abue garcia all make good rods in that price range. Quote
trevor Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I have had good luck with Shimano Saros reels, and I have a pretty new Shimano Compre rod and I LOVE it! Quote

Boots Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Just small plastics, tubes, small senkos, spinners, etc. Light fishing i use a 6' st. croix premier rod(light) should run you between 90-100 bucks, however i got mine paired with a shimano stradic ci42500 which costs 200$. i think it's an awesome combo and it's super light, makes catching those 2 lb bass more exciting Quote
boystcroix Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 check out the shimano symetre or the cheaper sahara both are very nice, smooth reel . only bummer is they don't come with spare spool anymore Quote
mark nowak Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Shimano Symetre 2500 and BPS Carbonlite 6'8" MHXF Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I would look into the Lews Tournament LFS Speed Spin TSS2000 spinning reel and a Shimano Crucial CRSX68M rod. I have this combo for fishing tubes, small worms, and small jigs and it is absolutely incredibly light and sensitive. SJ Quote
Super User deep Posted April 8, 2011 Super User Posted April 8, 2011 Just small plastics, tubes, small senkos, spinners, etc. Light fishing I have a Powell Max 7'3" M/XF that I use for those techinques, minus the spinners, and plus finesse jigs. It cost me $170. I wanted a light and sensitive rod. For the reel, I have a cheapo Shimano Sonora (less than $50). It has a decent drag though, and I haven't faced any problems with it. I didn't see any need to put a 100 dollar reel, since the bait is sitting still most of the time anyway. The total comes up to a little under $220, and you can buy a pack or two of senkos with the leftover Quote
Fish Fast Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I would check the St. Croix Premier rods out (or the triumph series for that matter). Another rod that I just picked up and handled that really impressed me was the Abu Garcia Veritas. Very light, very sensitive, and supposedly very durable. For $99.95, they will be hard to beat! Tight Lines, and let us know what you get! Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Can't really help you with the rod (there are a ton of good options), but I think the best spinning reel under $100 is the Pflueger Supreme. I have 9 of these reels and they go on everything from my Cabelas XML's to my G Loomis NRX Drop Shot Rod. Quote
northern basser Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Pflueger president xt on a abu garcia veritas. Not sure what the lightest action is on a veritas though. I have my president xt on a Cabelas XML spinning rod. The XML is a very nice and sensitive rod. Its not as light as the veritas, but it is more sensitive. Quote
endless Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I Have the Pflueger President XT paired with a Browning Citori 7' M-F that I was for my wacky and even chatter baits. I also have the Pflueger Supreme paired with Carbonlite 6'8 M-XF That I use for shaky heads. For lite worms I tell you you can't beat the Gander Mountain Tournament Combo for $79 I think it's still the same price. Excellent combo in my opinion. I had my combo (6'6 rod) for several years now and I might just use that for wacky now on. . I was told Gander Mountain really up the warranties on their fishing equipment?? Quote
Loomis24 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I would recommend the Pflueger Supreme. I have it paired with a Veritas rod. Very good pairing. I use 8lb Flouro on it. I would check into that Quote
AndyPlaysDrums Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I have a Cabela's Tournament ZX 2500A reel mounted to a 6'6" MXF Cabela's Prodigy rod, that I'm very pleased with. Quote
Stasher1 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Here ya go. Pick your reel size and rod length/power/action. I'd suggest the 9235 and the 6'8" MXF. http://www.basspro.com/Pflueger-Supreme-XT/Bass-Pro-Shops-CarbonLite-Rod-Spinning-Combos/product/10210619/-1763171 Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Yeah, the Symmetry is a great reel! I have that and a Shimano Sedona, get reels! As for as rods, see/feel which rods match up best and balance well on them. Pfleuger and Diawa does make great stuff, I just have never had trouble with Shimano so why leave them. Quote
lou304 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Anyone try the Temple Fork outfitters gary Loomis rods yet? They are $100 and you can't go wrong with a Shimano Symetre. Quote

endless Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Supreme or President XT which one do you prefer? I just like my XT. Quote
Stasher1 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I have owned both, but sold the President XT and kept the Supremes. The XT is a nice reel, but the weight difference alone is enough of a reason to choose the Supreme over the XT, imho. Quote
