From what I can tell, everyone on here loves the Avids and the Savvy. Question is, if i've got $185.00, which would you buy to fish 3/8-1/2 jigs and worms? Leaning towards the savvy, have held the Avid, nowhere to hold the savvy so i'm just going off my trusty BR member's advice.

I have a few Avids... Would recommend AVCxyMHF for that application. I want to try a Savy as well though. Just never fished one yet.

Having fished both and being a former St Croix guy, Savvy 704 or 734 depending on your preference. The 734 does not feel any heavier in hand (there is that balance word again) but can be a pain to store. I have the 703, 704 and 735 and of those, I would reach for the 704. IMO one of the true sweet spots in the Savvy line.

In that price range, St Croix gets my $$$

While I love St. Croix... Especially the Avid series. I just ordered a brand new Dobyns Champion 704C. With all this lack of fishing the bait monkey is killing me!

3/8-1/2 oz go with a 4 power either 704 or the 734. I'd say go with the avid so I have a greater chance at winning that ranger ;)

I will try to make this quick GET THE AVID!!!!!! I have Loomis IMX and GLX, St Croix, Dobyns DX and Savvy and I feel the Savvy is WAY over rated, it is by far my least favorite rod of the bunch. Now my Savvy is the SS693SF spinning rod and I dont know if the casting blanks are the same or not, but my Savvy feels dead in my hands. If you shop around a little you should be able to find a use Loomis BCR803 for around $220ish, now that is a jig rod.

Just to put my 2 cents in ,,,,I own 3 avids and love them...One reason is the warranty...I have had to use it unfortunalty but it was excellent....Broke a 4 year old avid....I had never warranty registered it and they still took care of me....$50.00 and i had a brand new road in less than a week.....But I am planning on purchasing a Dobyns Savvy also......
