VABasser Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Hey all. Did a quick search about this, nothing came up. Don't know if I've got the whole search function figured out with the new setup. Is it only the little "search..." box in the upper right? Anyways, I'm looking at getting some more tungsten weights for the upcoming summer. Now that TT is out of business, has anyone used the Eco Pro weights, and if so how do you like them? They've got them at TW, the only review for them said they polish the inside instead of using inserts. But I just want to ensure that the inside is smooth enough, the paint holds up well, etc. before I drop the money on them. Thanks Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 5, 2011 Super User Posted April 5, 2011 They're decent. They used to be a spectacular deal before they signed a few pros and prices jumped. I never had an issue with line fray with them. The paint chips fairly easily if you're around rocks. If you search around, you can generally find a better deal. You may have to search, but if I remember right, Alleys Tungsten has always been a highly recommended place to buy from. 1 Quote
lavbasser Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I have also been looking for alternatives since Tru Tungsten went out of business. The most recent newsletter of another site has an ad for Picasso Tungsten Weights. It says they are the same weights as the old Tru Tungsten. The Picasso weights are new and that is all I know. Lou Picasso and TruTungsten were under the same "Fish Harder" umbrella, and Picasso is not in business anymore. From what I understand, stores have pre-season order stock and that's it. There is supposed to be another company that is going to produce the products but there's been only hearsay at this point. I've used Eco-Pro but it's got huge holes, pegging it is nearly impossible. The consistency of the weights are far from reliable as well. I have one batch of 3/16 that weighs just over 1/4, and I've some quarter that is dead on. Quote
LeeRogers Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Hello guys!! As far as Ecopro Tungsten goes, We are the largest distributor of Tungsten products in the country. We no longer sell direct but you can navigate the site to find online stores that carry our products, like another site etc. A while back we offered a good deal on Tungsten weights that were part of our product line that we were refining. This was a huge batch of product that was improved on. We improved the paint process and quality control. Yes , the original products had some minor paint issues as well as the hole size issue. These areas have been corrected. The hole size issue was a test to allow the use of toothpicks for pegging but problems quickly arrose and we corrected the issue by using the standard hole size and we now offer ProPegs as part of our product line ( sorry toothpick guys ). The price increase had nothing to do with signing the Pros to our staff. The special we ran earlier was to get some Tungsten in the hands of anglers at a good price and you would be pleased with our improved line. Thanks again for the interest in the company and any questions, feel free to contact me at lee@ecoprotungsten.com Have a great day. 1 Quote

With 20lb fluorocarbon I have to triple up a rubber band type stop, and even then it's not a guarantee that it will stay. I've tried every stop I have and it takes two of the bullet weights strips to peg once sinker. I sincerely hope that's not the production hole size. The weights that I have aren't that old, I think I got them a month ago. If that's the production hole size, count me out. Also, have you addressed the weight variance issues? I know that Im not the only person that has found it. There are quite a few "reviews" or threads in other forums that have stated the same. Quote
LeeRogers Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Hello Hoolgan, When you purchased the weights, where did you get them from and what was the price?? If you purchased them from a message board and they were the special 3.50 a pack, you have some of the original batch of product we had manufactured. We realized they had some issues and we offered them at a good price. Everyone I have spoke to is very happy with the new product. All the prior purchasers who were looking to reorder were directed to the online stores to purchase the new product and are happy. As with any new company, you are going to go through quality control issues and improvements. We are dedicated to making the best product we can and will address any issues that comes up. Although we cannot please everyone, we do our best to please the majority of our users. If all you have is the original internet product that was 3.50 a pack, shoot me an email and I will send you a pack of our new product to try. Lee Quote
Gangley Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Thanks for the clarification Lee. I was curious about the price increase and assumed it was part of the process of growing with the addition of a prostaff. I bought some of the original 3.50/pack and was extremely pleased with the results. I can honestly say that I lost all of them to snags and fish before the paint ever started chipping or deteriorating, so the paint quality issues were never noticed by me. Hopefully EPT does well in the future, I appreciate the product and enjoy using them. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 12, 2011 Super User Posted April 12, 2011 I think I ordered these from fish307 in November, possibly December. Seems to me like the price was $4.99 or so for the 1/4 and 3/16. I'd have to look for the receipt. Quote
LeeRogers Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Hello again, Yes Fish307 did carry some of our first run product. Send me an email with your info and I will get you a pack of our current product that I know you will be pleased with. Lee Quote
VABasser Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Now that's customer service. I like a company that stands by their product. Lee, I will order some Eco Pro tungsten in the near future. Thanks for your info Quote
