Color Coding Rods

Does anyone use the rod wraps or vinyl tape to color code their rod buts so its easier to pick out in the rod box? Ive been wrapping Wilson Tennis racket grips around my cork instead of rod wraps cause i can get about 5 for the price of one. Was thinking about putting vinyl tape around the bottom just for labeling. Just wondering if it helps anyone else

Nope. I have such a close relationship with my rods that I identify them faster by glancing at them then using a piece of tape. Kind of like parents knowing which name goes to which twin.

within the past year i have gotten 4 new rods and reels, so im just getting to know these, reels. The old ones i wouldnt need to do this too. I am also going to be fishing in a tournament with my uncle and we will be keeping all of our rods in the rod box so i figure it will be easier to know which ones i want. IM just not sure though

i get different colored rod gloves or stick jackets...protects the rods and makes it easier to get them into and out of the rod locker.

I'm confused, you're having a hard time picking which one is which between 4 combos? Are they all the same length, brand, power, action, and reels the same? Even then I can't see why you'd need to color code them. If it was like 10 combos or something insane like that I guess I could kinda understand. haha

I have mine somewhat color coded with stick jackets. I've got 13 rods total in my rod locker, 10 casting and 3 spinning. I have 3 casting rods that I use for bottom bouncing baits(jigs,c-rigs,t-rigs, etc.) and 7 rods that I use for reaction/moving baits(swimbaits,jerkbait,crankbait, etc.). I color the bottom bouncers black and the reaction bait rods yellow. I also have the spinning rods with yellow stick jackets as well. Another nice accessory that I found that helps withs quickly identifying which one is which is the reel grips. I ordered 2 pairs of them to try them out and after one day fishing with them, I ordered 8 more pairs to finish my baitcasters out. After reeling with them on, the other reels without the reel grips just didn't feel right.

I can't say enough good things about the stick jackets. I broke a brand new allstar one day trying to get the tangle undone in my rod locker, so I decided to find something that would help me out. I only have one small rod locker on my 18ft boat and with the stick jackets on, the 13 rods, plus my co-angler's 6 rods(without stick jackets) fit comfortably in it. I can see having to replace a few of them in the next 5 years or so because of the hooks getting stuck in them and having to kinda rip them apart to get them out. You can remedy this by getting the lure jackets as well, but I don't see a need for them personally.

If you have over 8 or 9 rods, I would think that you would have a need for the stick jackets. The more organization you have in the boat, the more time you can keep a bait in the water and less time you have to spend looking for or fixing a mess. I have no problems with my rods & reels, but the tackle side of things is a different story.

I don't use any sort of color coding. I have too many combos right now but I'm actually trying to cut back or otherwise maybe I would. A big part of my fishing enjoyment is tackle in general so I like to purchase from a variety of manufacturers/product lines. As a result most of my combos vary enough it is easy enough to identify with a quick glance. If I had them stored in a rod locker or some setup I could only see a portion of the rod I'd probably use some colored tape like you.

Rod jackets of some sort are on my next to buy list. I'm always fishing as a co-angler and worry about damaging the rods moving them around as much as I do. The peace of mind would definitely be worth the small investment. Haven't decided if I will go with a 'name brand' company or one of the many small one-man businesses that also produce them.
