Today I picked up a St. Croix Premier spinning rod, 6'6" in length, medium power, fast action. I wasn't necessarily looking for this rod, but it was priced at $79 with a free St. Croix sweatshirt thrown in so I pulled the trigger. Seems like a good deal.

I don't have a dropshot rod because I really haven't experimented much with that technique. From what I've read here, this rod may not fit the bill.

I was thinking of using it for smaller spinners, tubes, grubs, floating Rapalas, and other lighter weight lures.

Anyone have this rod or similar? If so, what do you use it for?

I do not see a reason why it would not work for dropshot. An xfast might be prefered, but does not mean that rod wont do a fine job dropshotting. Let us know what you think after you get a chance to fish it. Dont give cold weather as an excuse for not going out and using it yet....you did get a sweatshirt to go with it. :tongue23:

m/f fast would work fine, but the rod number signifies it is a medium light fast...

I did not notice the difference between model number and his description.

The last few years I have been using a st croix triumph in ml/f for my dropshotting needs. Worked fine for me.

well there you go...first hand experience! Plus it will be much more fun of a fight on lighter equipment!

Might be a little light for deep dropshotting , I use an xs68mxf for drop shot. The extra fast tip makes for a great hookset, though you could use braid with a floro leader if you feel you need faster hookset
