yankinhawgs Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Looking for help identifying a problem with my boat..... I have a '98 Skeeter SS90 with a 90hp Yamaha Put the boat in the water this past weekend with all the batteries fully charged. Went to crank the motor up and it sounded like the starter was dragging and it just instantly killed my battery to where it wouldnt turn over without ever getting it to fire. I changed over to another battery and it did the same thing with that battery. When I was switching the battery cables to the other battery, the nuts were on fire about to the point where you couldnt touch them they were so hot. I was able to get the motor cranked by pull starting it but my trim wouldnt work either so I'm not so sure its my starter but I'm thinking its electrical. I cleaned all my terminals and cable connections and still would not do anything. I checked all my fuses and they look fine. What I havent done is checked to see if my starter is getting the right juice. Anyone experienced this problem that can lead me in the right direction?? Any help would be appreciated. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Sounds to me like you need to take a look at your battery charger and at your connections at the battery and under the Cowling. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted April 4, 2011 Super User Posted April 4, 2011 The starter itself may be bad - the heat you spoke of may be the starter drawing a lot of amps in an attempt to crank the engine. Consider removing the starter and having it bench tested. While you're at it, have the batteries load tested as well. Otherwise you'll be throwing money at it until it's fixed. Quote
