Been looking at getting a pflueger patriarch 71lpl for my new powell endurance, but came across a good deal on a revo s today. I know they're not really in the same class, but would like to know if anyone thinks the revo s is worth a shot?

definitely.. i have one and i pick it up more than i pick up my other revos

love my revo s. Buddy of mine has a quantum energy that he used to swear by. used my revo and then bought one.

I for one would go ahead and buy the patriarch reel. The revo S is a good reel but I don't think it can compare to the smoothness and casting performance of the patriarch. Anyways just my .02

Garcia's are relativity easy to get parts for according to my LTS.

I have a Revo S on one of my setups and I'd have to say it is definitely a solid reel and it has served me well. Whether or not it's worth a shot would have to be determined by if it meets your wants/needs in a reel.

I had 2 Revo S's, both were aweful, one started falling apart the first day I used it. Both felt stiff and didn't cast well at all, got rid of them both within a few weeks of having them. I currently have 2 Patriarchs and have owned around 6 and really like them. They don't get fished as much as they should but they are leaps and bounds above the Revo S.

Tackle_Warehouse has the right handed Patriarch 6:4:1 and 7:1:1 narrow spools on sale for $149.95 shipped. I know you need a left hand i Said ALL Day but maybe someone else reading this can be of use. I just ordered one yesterday. You might want to check with your local Academy ALL Day. The ones in my area had a price drop from $200 to $150. They only carry the 7:1:1 here so I looked elsewhere because I wanted the 6:4:1. $149.95 seems like a smoking deal for this reel. I cant even find it on eBay for that.

So true. I just can't justify buying another one. Somebody should take advantage though! Outlet Bait & Tackle has them at $149 right now as well. (Overstockbait .com)

That site had them on sale for $130 for a St. Patty's day sale (that lasted a week). I price matched with TW and ended up paying $135 shipped 2-day :D

As for the reel it feels very solid and well built (as does the revo). My Revo S has been a workhorse but it isn't the best casting reel I own. The Patriarch wins that easily in my experience. Revo has a better drag, but depending on the application it's debatable if that's really even worth considering. I've heard Pfleuger's finish holds up much better than the Revos (which get rash pretty easy IMO)...that may be so but the shiny finish can drive me crazy with fingerprints/smudges.

Well, I got the pflueger.haven't got to use it yet, but it flips and pitches great in the yard. I got it from TW, midnight.I had been watchin that sale, but I couldn't talk myself in to the right handed model. I figured if I'm spending $400 on a set up, get what you really want.

Your going to love the Patriarch. Ive been using mine all week long and I'm really liking it. It has great casting distance and the retrieve is very smooth. Just be sure to remove the side plate and take 2 brakes off. It comes with 4 brakes on and 2 off. Remove the screw on the top of the reel to unlock the side plate and twist.
