Super User Bankbeater Posted April 3, 2011 Super User Posted April 3, 2011 Just got back from exchanging a BPS Pro Qualifier spinning reel for a Pflueger President. IMO a much better spinning reel. Seems be be a lot smoother, and it sort of reminds me of the old Mitchell 300 reels from way back in the 1970's. Quote

Seems be be a lot smoother, and it sort of reminds me of the old Mitchell 300 reels from way back in the 1970's. I started fishing with a Mitchell 300 back around 1954. I see they still make them. Are they any good? I've read good things about the President reels, and have considered getting one even tho all my newest gear has been baitcasting gear. Buying a new spinning reel would also require buying a new spinning rod as all my old ones are El Cheapos. You should post back with a review after using it for awhile. I've also read the Daiwa Exceler is excellent for its price range. That darn bait monkey is reeling me in. Don't need to be spending more on rods/reels right now. Instead need to be spending more on lures. Quote
Stasher1 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 My local Walmart has all of their Presidents in the clearance bin for ~$35, along with a bunch of Shimano Sonoras for about the same price and some Pflueger Trion GX-7s for ~$30. If you really like it, you may want to check your local WM to see if they're doing the same. If so, you could take yours back to BPS and get two from WM instead. Quote
Canga Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 the president is an awesome reel, and especially for the price...only thing that sucks is the wooden handle =/ Quote
i said ALL day Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I agree with Canga, pflueger makes good products for good prices. I have a president, and love it! Quote

The last new one I owned lasted only four years and the worm gear went out in it. Several people I know have Presidents and they love them. Quote

Couple weeks ago I exchanged a BPS Microlite Elite for a Micro President yep much much smoother than BPS reel. Had it out tossing SK itsy/bitsy jig pretty nice. Quote
