bassnleo Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I just wanted to put out a update on the status of GAMMA Fishing Lines. Many anglers think GAMMA is done and out of business, and that couldn't be further from the truth! GAMMA line is in production and hopefully word and sales will pick up again once the word gets out on a larger scale. For anyone not aware, GAMMA Fishing Divison was purchased by Dark Knight Industries of Oil City PA. The new owner of the divison is a personal friend and I had the chance to visit him 2 days ago at his new line facility. The new owner is passoniate about GAMMA line and putting in endless hours to bring GAMMA back to where it was a few years ago. It's cool to see all the machines and how the line is prepared for distribution! As far as the product line, nothing has changed. All the flourocarbon, co-polymer, leaders, fly fishing leaders, etc.....is still being manufactured. There will be some future changes with packaging and other minor things but nothing earth shattering. I'd be glad to answer any questions about GAMMA, feel free to ask. If I don't know the answer, I'll get you one. Quote

bassnleo Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 A stores stock will replenish if they order more! Part of the rebuilding process is to get the word out to local stores and dealers that the line is back in production and can once again be ordered. One of the hurdles that GAMMA is working to overcome is the word that the company is out of business for good. Many anglers, stores, and dealers, are still under the impression that GAMMA is out of business, and that was partly true for a period of time, but with the acquisition of GAMMA by Dark Knight Industries, GAMMA is back. KSRonH Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Tackle Warehouse only has the Gamma flourocarbon line, they don't have the copolymer line which is my favorite line. It will be nice to see the purple boxes showing up in the stores again. Quote

It will be nice to see the purple boxes showing up in the stores again. I used 10# co poly this weekend on toledo bend and this stuff is the real deal! Super smooth and limp and strong as heck. I hooked up with a 6 lber and had no problem getting it to the boat. I got snagged on a stump and could not break the line pulling with everything I had with the drag locked down. I am thinking about switching everything over to Gamma! Quote

bassnleo Posted April 5, 2011 Author Posted April 5, 2011 I mainly use the flouro but also like the co-poly. I most often use the co-poly for topwater and cranks. I did some crappie fishing over the weekend. I spooled a reel up with 4 lb co-poly and on a medium action Kistler Helium. I was fishing a 1/32 ounce jig under a float and around dead lilly pad stems. The fish were really hitting light, I mean on some bites the float wouldn't even go under, just a small bobble in it. If you didn't get on 'em quick often times they spit it out. I decided that any little odd movement of the float and I'd snap set, trying to break the line. Didn't do it once, and the bonus was taking home 23 crappies, all over 10 inches. Quote
LAO162 Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Even though I still have at least a 1 to 2 year supply of Copoly, it's great to hear that it will be available in the future. Quote

fullmoonfever Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Cabelas is currently selling bulb spools of copolymer Gamma line and one of the "colors" is listed as "Clear Blue" - do you have any idea if this is actually the copolymer fluoresent blue line? The Cabelas help line didn't have any idea! I fishing, primarily, at night, and use (mostly) fluoresent line on most of my reels and I would sure like to get some more Gamma fluoresent blue line! Thanks for you help. Quote
bassnleo Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 Yes, the clear blue will look like a fluoresent blue. Quote
Super User CWB Posted June 16, 2011 Super User Posted June 16, 2011 What makes it almost 2 to almost 3 times as expensive as 100% flouro, which is pretty good line? Robert McNamara Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Is there anywhere this line is available online yet. I found some 4 and 14 pound in gander mountain today. But i believe it is pretty old. The copyright on the box said 2005. Not a true indicator of date. But only thing i had to go on Quote

But i believe it is pretty old. The copyright on the box said 2005. Not a true indicator of date. But only thing i had to go on Everything I've come across in my travels is old stock. Stuff with dust on the top of the box, most faded to the point that the color of the boxes is radically different. I've tried to find a Rep for it a couple times and have emailed the company as well and have gotten nowhere. If Gamma is, in fact, in business, I'm sorely disappointed in the performance of the company at this point. I was perfectly willing, in April, to give them a shot. Now, though, it's July and I've never heard back. There are other companies that have product, support, and stock readily available. Quote
hike4steel Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 It was great line but was too expensive for me. I found a better value P-line. Quote

Since I like and use this line alot I had a local bass shop stock this line. The line is the same but the new company has changed the packaging slightly. I also see where GM has this at there online store as previously mentioned in this thread. I'm a happy camper as it's the same great product and locally available to me. Quote
Robert McNamara Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I emailed Gamma the other day. this was the response that i got back. Thanks for the inquiry into Gamma Lines. We are currently redoing the website, but if you go to gammafishing.com you can see our product line. You can fill out the comment section with the product you are looking for and we can then get you a price. The other way, if you know what you want is to call 814-676-3474 or 1800-437-2971 and our answering service should be able to take your order if it is not during our business hours. If you call during business hours 8-4 M-F you will get directly to our office and we can then take you order as well. I apologize for the inconvenience and am hoping to get our dealer network and internet site up to speed real soon.
