Flywatersmallie Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 So I got a Dobyns DX701SF spinning rod a couple weeks ago. It needs a reel. Recommendations? Thanks, would like to keep it under 150 clams or so. I had a Stradic on it and for some reason, it just doesn't feel quite right. Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 The new Pflueger Supreme XT would probably be a good choice unless you can find a Stradic CI4 for a good price. I have been using the new Lews Tournament Speed Spin and have been very impressed with this reel, especially at the $79.99 price point. SJ Quote
Canga Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 x2 on the supreme xt. if you dont like the eva foam knob, look for last years (gold color) model. same basic reel, just missing hte carbon handle and weighs ~.2 oz more. great reels and can be found in the $80 range shipped (or if your local gander still has some in stock) Quote
unageo09 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 http://www.***.com/Shimano_Sedona_FD_Spinning_Reel/descpage-SSEFD.html I've been using the Shimano Sedona and really like it. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted April 3, 2011 Super User Posted April 3, 2011 Stradic CI4 2500s can be found for around $150 Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Check out the Quantum Catalyst Pti-B in the 10 or 20 size. Quote
Canga Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 my brother-in-law has a catalyst pti-b 20, pretty decent reel. very smooth, good drag, tho it is a little heavy. the thing that i HATE about it, and im not sure if its just this reel or a problem with all catalyst's, is that when i used the reel last fall, in like 40ish temps, the anti-reverse would not work about 50-60% of the time. in warmer weather it works fine and is a great reel, but would not recommend it for cold weather fishing!
