Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 3, 2011 Super User Posted April 3, 2011 Well, I figured I might as well try one more line while I was doing some experimenting. Decided to try out P-Lines newest offering in Voltage. Grabbed two spools, one 12 pound and one 15 pound. I can honestly say I'm surprised at how well this line performs. It's a very sensitive co-poly line with fairly minimal stretch. I've yet to have a break off with it, and abrasion resistance isn't too bad either. The only downside I've seen is that it does have a little bit of memory to it. Nothing horrible, but it is a bit noticeable. This stuff is very easy to cast. As much as I love Yo-Zuri Hybrid, Voltage may have it beat for now. I'm not sure if the hybrid I have here at the house is worn out and abused (I did some silly stuff to that line), but I've certainly noticed a difference between the two. Hybrid casts and handles a little better while Voltage gets the nod in the sensitivity and stretch department. For those of you who like co-poly lines, it may be worthwhile for you to try some out. It's basically 8 bucks for a 300 yard spool. You're not spending a lot to give it a whirl. Check it out, you may find that you like it. Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I have tried this line out as well and I found it to have a lot of memory even after using KVD L&L. It does have little stretch and seems fairly abrasion resistant. So far I still like Yo-Zuri better but this line is pretty close. I am also trying out P-Line Floroclear and so far I like it just as well as the Voltage and it seems to have less memory to it. SJ Quote
Fat-G Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Floroclear is the worst line I have ever put on a reel, period. Absolutely terrible IMO. hope you got a good spool! Quote
central.PA.bass Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 i use this on my dropshot rod.. i really like it so far after 2 outings and have not noticed any memory issues Quote

I fished with it all day today and did not have any problems with it. I have it on 2 bait casters and 1 spinning reel, 8, 12 and 15lbs test. I have Voltage on 1 bait caster and it works fairly well, but it does have considerably more memory. SJ Quote
Fat-G Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I broke off a giant one the 8# one time. I'll make an educated guess of ~11#. It was a monster. Not a big deal, right? I just kept breaking off...casting, setting the hook, or just popping a snag. It was rather embarassing. I'm surprised it held up to my PB river smallie. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 3, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 3, 2011 If you don't throughly wet the floroclear before you cinch it down and while you're cinching it down it seems to weaken very badly. I've had good luck with it when I've been careful to do that though. As for the Voltage, I have some 8lb on my shakeyhead rod. No real test yet since I have yet to catch a fish on a shakeyhead this year! Quote
The Doctor Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I've had good results with the P-Line CX as well. I throw it with crankbaits on baitcasting gear as it has a thin diameter. So I throw 15# b/c it is the equivalent of 12# diameter. The extra strength is nice. I don't ever have memory issues on baitcasting gear with it. Never broke on me either, even with 5-6# smallies. Spinning gear? haha I have problems with everything so I go braid with a flouro leader but that's a whole different story. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 4, 2011 Super User Posted April 4, 2011 I'm not terribly fond of Fluoroclear, or CX. I will use CXX in a pinch but that's about it. I've tried fluoroclear under different conditions and have had several problems with the line. It doesn't retain very good knot strength, and it doesn't have that good abrasion resistance, and it's got memory similar to that of 5 strand 2" diameter bridge cable. I tie good knots and have had no issue with the other lines I've fished. There are far superior lines available in roughly the same price range. Quote

krisjack69 Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I would like to know the answer to that question as well.I have been using Berkley 100 percent fluorocarbon.I have 8 lb seaguar invizx line as well. Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted April 4, 2011 Super User Posted April 4, 2011 You sparked my curiosity...what have you had better luck with? Berkley 100% Fluoro High Seas Fluoro Abrazx and Invizx (First choice in this price category) Yo-Zuri Those are all lines I have fished or am currently fishing that I would rather fish over Fluoroclear. High Seas is marginally better than Fluoroclear in terms of memory, but the abrasion resistance and knot strength are what tips the scale. Quote
krisjack69 Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I have fished with Hi Seas mono.I used the 15 lb line and it was the worst line I ever fished with on a baitcaster. It would backlash very easily on my revo premier. Quote

I've fished the Berkley and Abrazx....you are right, they are nicer lines. But at the stores around me there is a big price difference especially with the higher # tests. At my local bass pro it is about 2 times as much as P-line and you get less "yardage". I fish the nicer stuff most the time (especially for tourneys) but if for fun fishing I think the P-line would suffice for the average angler. Quote
A-Rob Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 sorry I should've mentioned my experience with P-Line has been with CX and CXX, not fluoroclear which I just noticed is what you specifically referenced. Quote
