JTlunker83 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 How do you go about T-riggin' a senko? Is is short for Texas rigged or is it a whole other rig? Thanks Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 13, 2007 Super User Posted February 13, 2007 T-Rig= Texas Rig. Quote
senko_77 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I have never texas rigged a senko, but there are times when a senko on a 1/8oz spotsticker jighead is killer in deep brushpiles. It's not t-riggin, but its similar Quote
JTlunker83 Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 I appreciate the help. I'm just getting into bass fishin' so I want to try a little bit of everything. I have been reading up about the senkos and seems to be a killer technique. Quote
VekolBass Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I really think that T-rigging a Senko defeats the action of the bait. I spent some time this past summer learning to fish the Senko, and started out T-Rigging it. In several hours spent fishing it this way I caught exactly one bass. When I started to fish it weightless I started catching fish far more frequently. I also caught a number of fish on it with a C-rig. Perhaps I was doing something wrong, but I was not impressed with a T-rig Senko. Quote
VABasser Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 When people say "T-rigged senko" on this site they generally mean weightless. It is still hooked the same way (weedless) as you would a plastic worm but there is no bullet sinker. I've never bothered to actually fish a senko with a bullet weight but did buy some weighted hooks that I wanted to give a shot. Never got around to trying them last year though. :-/ Quote
Bryant. Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Instead of using an regular offset hook, try this hook http://www.***.com/descpage-GFWH.html I think this gives the senko that wigling action that the bass really love. Quote
New 2 Bass Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Skip the weight. It will cast way out just fine. Al Quote
flyphisher # Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 You can fish a senko anyway you want to. I had several top 5's last year dragging a T-rigged senko w/ 3/8 oz. bullet weight. The fish were locked on beds and stumps and had lockjaw. Sometimes the fish like a real subtle look. Caught my two PB spotted bass on a c-rig senko last year too. Quote
dink Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 A T-rigged senko with a 3/16 or 1/4 weight and a bead is one of my favorite baits for a tough NIGHT bite. I stumbled onto this one night when the fish quit hitting the salt craw and big worm. Quote
Triton21 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Bryant, I use these hooks to wacky senko. Good price also. Cabelas want about $1.00 more. Kelly Quote
Guest avid Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I have yet to find a bad way to fish a senko. Here in Florida we Pitch and flip into thick mats that may require a weight as heavy as 1.5 oz's to penetrate. the senko is an excellent plastic for this purpose. It's shape causes it to rarely hang up yet it has enough bulk to interst anything down there. It just may be the best bass bait ever invented. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Hey RW helped me out with this i use some slightly different sizes than his exact suggestion I use 1/0 to 3/0 EWG hooks No Weight just let em sink and wiggle WORKS GREAT FOR ME Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 I've never fished them any other way than weightless on a 3/0 EWG Gamakatsu. Quote
stroz Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I go weightless t-rigged (texas) and when the bait starts getting beat up I go wacky with it also weightless. This will save you money and with enough slack in your line will give the bait no diffrence in action. Hope this helps. Stroz Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 I'm with Burley, weightless and Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG hooks. Falcon Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 T-rigged, weightless and weedless. I fish 6" Senkos on a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu or X-Point Offset Worm Hook. 3/0 is probably just fine for the 5" bait, but I would still use 4/0. Quote
bugman Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Instead of using an regular offset hook, try this hook http://www.***.com/descpage-GFWH.html I think this gives the senko that wigling action that the bass really love. What size of this weedless wacky hook do you like best? Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 On the 5" Senko, I use a 5/0 EWG hook. The bait falls a little faster and the tail wiggles a little more than when using the smaller hooks. Sometimes it's enough difference to be significant. Cheers, GK Quote
CyBasser Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Senkos are generally used texas-rigged, weightless, I really think that T-rigging a Senko defeats the action of the bait. BUT: Bass are fish with weird characters: On more than one occasions (actually quite a few occasions), they would refuse a weightless t-rigged senko, a weighted t-rig worm, a weighted or weightless t-rigged creature, but they would slam a weighted t-rigged senko (generally 1/4oz on 5", 3/8oz on 6"). Don't ask me about the reasons - only the bass know why! Quote
Fisherman Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I will have to agree with CyBasser here. I've rigged the Senko T-rig both weight and weightless (3/0 EWG Gamakatsu). Some days they prefer the weight, other times they prefer weightless. stroz, thanks for the tip on using it wacky when they get beat up.. Never thought of it, duh! Quote
bassn247 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Hey guys...Wacky style will put them in the boat also! My brother throws a senko/dinger Wacky style and catches them everywhere he fishes. Never seen nothing like it, I try it and get spanked. I have to stick with the Texas rig or crankbait. Quote
